EDS_5_OH 09-21-2009, 04:31 PM That is so cool! Awesome work, I love the stock GM dash.
SteelFuser 09-21-2009, 06:37 PM Hands down sickest buggy badass wheeling rig I have ever seen. You did one hell of a job on this one. This thing could be a contender in the KOH race. I have built and seen a lot of nice rigs. This one takes the cake. My hats off to you.
tileman2003 09-21-2009, 07:46 PM How much does that beautiful buggy weigh?
Tucsontoy 09-21-2009, 08:19 PM It is at 8,420 +/- depending on how full the 50 gallon tank is.
jeepj10jim 09-21-2009, 10:01 PM WOW!!!
Someday a DuraMax/Allison in my Jeep J10!
floriduramax1 09-21-2009, 10:09 PM Awesome! Congrats on a beautiful "buggy"!
INASpaceman 09-21-2009, 11:34 PM What is it for?
01Duramax6spd 09-22-2009, 12:00 AM Sweetness. That is one SICK buggy.
Tucsontoy 09-22-2009, 02:28 AM Question: What is it for? Answer: Search & Rescue. Here weight and clearance will be your friend. The large fuel tank is so that it can stay in the field longer. In Arizona, many searches are in bad weather when the washes are flooded. Regular trucks can not get through or you just do not risk a rescuer. All electronics have been mounted for five feet of water just in case but three feet is safe and dry. I know there will be people glad to see this thing coming if they are stranded.
Idle_Chatter 09-22-2009, 11:28 PM Man! that thing is AWESOME! Great craftsmanship.
lukeh9886 09-22-2009, 11:37 PM Shoot I'd get stranded on purpose if I knew that was coming to rescue me!!! Amazing!
c4500LLY 09-23-2009, 01:29 AM Shoot I'd get stranded on purpose if I knew that was coming to rescue me!!! Amazing!
+2
kawginn77 09-23-2009, 02:12 AM WICKED COOL!!!!!! Thers not very many places it wont go for sure, did you leave the a/c and other accesories? Just curious about the swap to a modified rig. Usually people leave the accesory drives stock because most swaps are into another full bodied vehicle.
Tucsontoy 09-23-2009, 12:09 PM I have a picture on Photobucket showing the engine bay. The stock alternator powers the two batteries in the front. The A/C unit was removed and the air compessor was installed into that location. Here is a link for that air compressor: http://www.extremeoutback.com/index.cgi?cart_id=6373178.16493&pid=34
The location for the second alternator has a seperate 160 amp unit: http://www.pitstopmotorsports.com/shopping/dual-alternator-kit-w-two-clutched-alternators-c-2-pr-20.html
The factory steering column was used in order to use the remote radio controls. That means the BCM was used also. I used as many of the factory controls and relays as possible. This way the factory service manuals can be used for trouble shooting. (just in case...) Operates just like any 2007 Classic Silverado with a LBZ!
I wanna see that thing in action!!! SICK!!!
torqueofthetown 09-24-2009, 03:00 PM Damn, thats an amazing build

Thats awesome....I just thought it was a crawler
I bet you could have a business building those:cool: thats an awesome machine.
Tucsontoy 09-24-2009, 03:12 PM Ya, it can crawl on the Interstate at 70 MPH @ 1750 RPM with the high 6th gear in the Allison. On the other end with the 10:1 Atlas transfer case it can crawl so slow that you can get out to move a rock and it have moved only a few inches! Great all around. Actually the low gears with the tow/haul option in the Allison is great to hold it back on steep declines. Solves the problem of 4-wheeling with deisels.... not holding back and having to use the brakes all of the time... I think all of the bases have been covered and field time will tell....
D-MAX03 09-24-2009, 09:26 PM Shoot I'd get stranded on purpose if I knew that was coming to rescue me!!! Amazing!
x2 on that sweet rescue buggy:ro)
Speedpro1 09-25-2009, 02:40 PM The craftsmanship is awesome! That's the the most wicked vehicle i've seen in a while! :D
Tucsontoy 09-26-2009, 01:41 AM Passed it's DOT inspection today. Now it is street legal!
lukeh9886 09-26-2009, 08:07 PM Now that you say that.... How much for one just like it???
Tucsontoy 09-26-2009, 09:09 PM I have not totalled everything up yet... Afraid to....
This thing would be in the $150,000 range.
08DMAXX 09-26-2009, 09:41 PM Wow that is amazing! Nice attention to detail! Would be cool to see it in action! How long did it take to build?
Tucsontoy 09-26-2009, 09:55 PM I bought the axles in 11/06 and found the engine in 12/06. Since then it has been design and fabrication with a crew of me, myself and I. It has been full time for the past year. If I took out the waiting time to have special parts made it would still be two years with a crew of one...
jts2500hd 09-26-2009, 09:58 PM can we get some vids of it in action
lukeh9886 09-27-2009, 07:04 PM U should definetely put a little dude peeing on a hummer sticker on the back of that rig! lol

Tucsontoy 10-23-2009, 01:39 AM Thanks for all of the compliments.... She runs like a top but still fine tuning the suspention and the axles. It is great until about 30mph and it starts to wander. Not a death wooble but enough not to try 60mph right now. Still some DIC alarms for stuff that no long is there but it does not keep it off the trails. Videos will be soon.
07HDClassic 10-23-2009, 04:12 AM Im very impressed... you have built an awesome rig that is definitely one of a kind. Can't wait to see more

Unknown303 11-21-2009, 11:19 AM If I don't see a video soon there's a chance I may murder my family in retaliation.
jk, but seriously, a video.
billybob 12-01-2009, 08:39 PM nice:cool:
Tucsontoy 12-21-2009, 02:28 PM Well, I tried to make a video! I was going to do a burnout to show how this big rig can move out! While stopped with the brakes applied I was powering up the turbo when all of a sudden there was a major bang! The video shows nothing but a little black smoke and the sound of the Duramax and then a BANG and then shutting it down. The buggy never moved. The front brakes held and it was only in 2-wheel drive. The torque on the rear axle was so great that it sheared through all of the rotor mounting tabs on both sides. I attached a picture because I had never seen or heard of anything like it! I am now re-designing to rotor mounts to be stronger.
One of these days I'll get a video!
Roger
