I have recently found my coolant leak which is a couple gaskets near the water pump. I think I can replace them without removing the water pump. If I have to remove the water pump, I should probably replace the gaskets for the water pump right? No need to replace the actual water pump if no problems with it? Thanks, just want to make sure before we start this.

what gaskets do u think are leaking? if you pull the pump off, it would prolly be a wise thing to go on and replace the gaskets. but idk if u can just get the o-rings and gasket for the pump. theres 2 o-rings and 1 gasket. the gasket is for the oil cooler pipe and one o-ring is for the pump going onto the engine and the other is inside the pump.

If you are going to remove the pump to replace gaskets, I'd just go ahead and replace the pump and save yourself extra work down the road.

I bet the pump is leaking out of the weep hole-- it would be rare for the gaskets to leak! Better remove the pump and replace it. Fix it right the first time-- of course it is always easier the second time! :rolleyes:

x2 i had this go wrong. coolant was leakin from the weep hole. but if u do decide to replace the pump. be VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY careful with the housing. treat that thing like it was ur baby. when i did mine after i pulled the pump out of the housing i lookin at the housing and it had a small chunk of metal missing. so i decided to replace that also. i had to go to the dealer and they told me that they couldnt get it bc GM doesnt make that part anymore and it would be acouple of months before they could get me one...
