Just returned from a good ol' road trip (My first with the Max) and I must say it's a real runner on the road. Don't strain on the hills and loves to run at 80 plus on the open road. I heard a noise from my motor just before I left and wrote to GM and visited my dealer to make sure that I didn't have a real problem here. They said they had heard the noise before and gave me a copy of a service VME#PI00040 which detailed the noise and says it is caused by the main bearing crank pin which vibrates and sounds like "tick, tack, tick tack when warmed up at idle. "Nothing to worry about" they say. I don't like it when I pull up to buy fuel and a Ford or Dodge owner says" you got something loose under there?" I think GM should fix this and we shouldn't have to put up with this noise...... 04' Max stock with 16K miles.  These are spendy trucks and shouldn't sound like a wrist watch.......

The ticking sound usually goes away with miles, my truck only has about 8,500 on it and I haven't heard the sound in a while. Diesels make noise, its in there nature. Its just now we can here all the lil noises since the Duramax is so quite. I would rather them not fix it because I would not want my motor torn apart to fix a lil tick.

my 2004.5 lly did the same thing. I thought it was my edge module but after awhile it stopped. I have about 20,000 miles on it now and is really quite, except for the screaming of the back tires. In my opinion it will go away, dont worry about those other brands, you cant polish a turd.
