Hi evryone.

I have 06 3500 dully that I bought in june this year.
I use the truck to tow my 23' toy hualer (about 9,000lb).
I have 285-75-16 tires and I install the banks bundle on it.
Last week I got back from my weekend and the truck got over heated when I whent up the 7 mile heal. the heat got to 225 and the fan start to work it went down to 195 fast.
I live in california and the truck came from the east coast.
I have only 29,000 miles on it.
Is someone had this issue with his truck.

Thank you.
Shai.

225 is not even close to over heating.
Your truck is working just as it should.
It gets hot, the fan comes on & it cools down.
You have nothing to worry about.
Enjoy your truck.

225?

Ahhahahaha

You got to be kidding about 225 being overheat! Because 230 ECT starts to move the temp gauge from it's numb indicated 210 spot. Then you still have 20 degrees to go before the trans oil is overheated at 252 degrees, by setting a code. The coolant at 16PSI won't boil till 267 degrees. Your engine computer will cut fuel to the engine long before you get that hot.

Thanks guys.

When I installed the banks bundle, its included the pda in the cab so i can see the temp on it and they set alarm at 225 for the tran and for the engine.
What do you think i shuld set the alarm on the PDA?

I have the 06 dually also, same truck as you.
I tow a 35ft that weighs somewhere between 10k and 11800 at its max load.
same thing in the mountains. It will run up to 220, the trans just getting over 200 then the fans come on and it cools down.
Last year I pulled from Maryland to Yellowstone, only saw the temp rise one time coming from Graybull up toward medicine wheel.
this year I did the Rockies with it. Saw the temp come up 2 or 3 times on the longer grades, but once again the fan kicked on and the temp came right down.

Its not going to hurt it when this happens, just drive it easy and drive it safe.

Took me a bit to trust the truck towing that weight in the mountains but now I dont think there is a hill I couldnt get that trailer up.

except for Mt Evans. Did that without the trailer and the switchbacks were a bit tight with just the length of the truck.

Forgot to mention this.
Mine is completely stock, factory setting is right around the 220 mark according to my factory guages.
I would think that 225 is right in range and I would let her go at that.

I saw 235F water temp towing home last night and 250 trans temp eastbound up the Tehachapi grade in California.

Only time worse was up the Baker grade eastbound but it was 110F and I had to slow down to 55mph to keep the trans temp off DIC screen. Truck is stock, performance wise. Trailer weighs in at 10k lbs.

Why is your trans running so hot?
Mine never moves much at all.
Maybe you need to check your trans cooler for air flow blockage?

My trans never go over the 220F.
I found what was the problem. In our engine there is two thermostat, 1st set to open at 180F and the 2nd at 185F. the problem that I had is that the termostat did not open at 180F and only one of the two opened at 185F.
thew water did not flow like it shuld.
I change the termostat and now the engine temprature is perfect.

Also I want to install new oil pan for the trans, that will give me 4qt of oil more and will keep the trans cooler.
I think you should try this, you will lower your trans temp.

a bigger pan won't change the temp of the tranny, it will only make it take longer to heat up, and longer to cool back down on the other side.

I want to install the MAG-TEC oil pan if it going to take longer to heat that will be good. I will finish to up the road and it will not heat.
NO?

Only if up the road is easier going than what you were experiencing. I.E. if you are working the truck hard up a long grade and getting hot near the end, then after crossing the grade it eases up, then yes. However if the other side is the same or even downhill, then you are going to only move the place where the issue occurs.
