: Towing with the 6.0
wbens 05-21-2005, 01:27 AM When you guys tow with your 6 liters, do you just leave it in drive with the tow/haul mode on or do you drop it into 3rd with the tow/haul mode on? I haven't towed with it yet, but when the time comes, I want to make sure I do it correctly. Any other suggestions would be helpful as well.

Lawnboy 05-21-2005, 07:19 PM T/H will prevent OD until your really going at a good clip anyway. If you notice it hunting between 3 and OD, then pull it down into 3.
Looking at your sig, I see you have 285's.....that may cause some hunting.
snonut12 05-21-2005, 07:41 PM I just leave it in Drive with T/H mode on. I only use T/H when towing heavy, like 5K and greater.
jamess67 05-22-2005, 08:59 AM I lock it in 3rd with 3:73 and a 8k lb trailer. I tow in the flat lands and it wont hold OD unless I have a good tail wind.
John DiMartino 05-22-2005, 09:42 AM It would depend on the trailer weight,flat/hills and the frontal area of the trailer. With my Gm gasser, i can tow 6000lbs on an 18ft open trailer at 70 in OD as long as its flat, but with the little 6x10 enclosedwith under 1000lbs total,i needed to keep OD off exc on downhills, because of the frontal area was dragging a lot of HP.
Dnipro Max 06-11-2005, 10:26 PM What exactly Tow/Hall botton due?
Lawnboy 06-11-2005, 10:47 PM Raises shift points and slightly raises line pressure.
Dnipro Max 06-12-2005, 12:56 PM ok thanks
Silvertwinkie 06-21-2005, 12:11 PM I tow 6300lbs with a 6.0L (2004). Tow in tow/haul mode all the time when towing, particularly useful in stop and go traffic.
skeeter1486 08-19-2005, 04:55 PM I have an 01 6.0L with 285's that all I have done to it right now is a K&N Intake and I have no problem with it kicking down to 3rd when I pull our 22ft flatbed with a load on it as long as I'm in T/H
ElephantNest 08-19-2005, 07:28 PM O/D with Tow/Haul here. Unless, like mentioned, it starts hunting for gears, which I haven't had it do yet.
nation of 4 08-19-2005, 08:21 PM Hello, I have an 04, 2500 ld, 4x4 w/3.73 rear and have only towed a 26' fiver about 250 miles on flats and hills in north GA. I use tow/haul and OD but it shifts a lot on the slightest grades. My GVWR is 8600 lbs. so I am near my limit weightwise. Trailer weighs about 6600 lbs dry.
TeddyBear 09-27-2005, 05:46 PM I have a 2003 2500HD 4x4 with 4.10s. Ive been pretty impressed with the performance so far. I got it new in Dec. of 02 and it now has about 68000 on it. No problems so far (knock on wood). Ive pulled with it quite a bit and it handles a load pretty good. I recently bought a International 1066 which weighs right at 12K. I was a little reluctant to pull it with my truck at first, but it actually does pretty good with a 12K tractor and a 4K trailer. Only complaint i have is that it lacks low end power. I have installed a hypertech tuner, a K&N FIPK2, dual exhaust, and a throttle body spacer. I have seen some performance gains from these. I like my hypertech pretty good but have been told that there are better ones out there for the 6.0. Which tuner is best?
Lawnboy 09-27-2005, 07:40 PM WOW! Towing 16K with a 6.Ohhh!
I guess as long as you don't have many hills and are staying local....
As for a tuner....There is the Predator (http://www.diablosport.com/U7195.php)
And the other good one is Westers, though that is a ECM replacement, not a tuner or chip.
GMCjamie 09-27-2005, 08:36 PM Westers really wakes up the 6.0. I highly recommend it over a handheld tuner.

Yeah, you can definitely tell its back there to say the least:lol: But it does pretty good if you keep it in the power band which is unfortunately from about 3000RPM to 5000RPM. The farthest distance ive pulled it is about 40 miles. Actually does pretty good though considering the size of the motor. You just gotta lay the hammer down and :grd:

WOW is exactly what I was thinking.
I tow my 5ver (about 7500+ lbs) in od with t/h and it does just fine does not search for gears.
