I don't have a scanner and the picture came out blurry. Its says GM is evaluating emission control components from select trucks. They want to exchange the complete exhaust system for a new one. There is no cost to the owner and actually they are giving you $300.00. They give you a loaner, delivered to your location, full tank gas, and no mileage limit. After the work is completed, your truck is returned to your location, washed, vacuumed, and with a full tank of gas.
They also want to purchase a complete vehicle from the group of trucks targeted by this program.
Wonder what they are doing? Anybody know or have an input?

Not much good for them to evaluate the truck's stock components when we have changed everything eh? If you put the stock exhaust back on they would think it was really clean and figure they had a good setup. I would defer it to someone that was stock instead so they get the info they need.

Here is the whole letter. Sorry I was tired and didn't want to type it all in last night.

General Motors Corporation is evaluating emission control components from select trucks that are in-use by our customers in California. You received this letter because our records show that you own vehicle id # (the trucks dash #)- the particular type of vehicle needed for this special engineering program. In order to ease any concerns that this letter may raise, we would like to emphasize that the program described here is not a recall or a problem investigation. This is simply an inquiry as to the possibility of using your truck to help GM measure compliance with enironmental goals.

With your consent, GM plans to exchange your truck's complete exhaust system for a new one. The exhaust system exchange includes replacement of both ctalytic converters and all (four) exhaust oxygen sensors. Of course, any replacement parts will be identical to your truck's original equipment and installed at absolutely no cost to you. In addition, owners of trucks selected for the program receive $300. We want to stress that participation is voluntary.

We provide owners of trucks selected for the program with a late model loan vehicle, delivered to your location, with a full tank of gas, and no mileage limit. After our work is completed, your truck is returned to your location, washed, vacuumed, and with a full gas tank.

Automotive Testing and Development Services, Inc.(ATDS) assists GM with carrying out the details of this program, including vehicle inspection. Let us know of your desire to participate by completing the enclosed reply form and mailing it to ATDS in the supplied postage-paid envelope. Assuming that you wish tp participate, ATDS will then phone you to ask a few additional questions about your truck's condition and maintenance history. After confirming your truck's eligibility by phone, we will then schedule a mutually agreeable time to borrow your for an inspection, performed by ATDS, at their laboratory in Ontario, California. Trucks found to be suitable for the program will have the exhaust system exchanged shortly therafter.

We also would like to make you aware that General Motors plans to purchase a complete vehicle from the group of trucks targeted by this program. if you are thinking about selling your truck, please let us know so that we can conduct our inspection accordingly and then present an appropiate purchase offer.

Thank you, for taking the time to look over this information. Please take just a few additional minutes to complete and return the encloded response form. Any questions you have may de directed to ATDS at this #*****

All 4 oxygen sensors?? Pure diesel, they aren't looking for your 01' work truck by chance are they?
That doesn't make much sense...Unless they are doing both gas and diesel....
Otherwise, as 96vette said, it sounds rather suspicious to me..

All right guys. Sorry about the blonde moments or what ever they are. I've been under alot stress with work, working alot of hours, and right now I'm packing for my 5-day camping trip(next weekend Memorial Day). If wasn't for 96vette or partsguy662 I wouldn't have even checked the serial #s. But yes this is for my 3500 work truck. I thought it was for my d-max. Duh duh. Sorry for the blonde, senoir, or what ever they call it moment.

I too, think it's a scam... If GM sent it, they would know you owned a Diesel. To my knowledge, there are no Oxygen sensors on the diesel's exhaust system, Especially with a non-catlytic '03! If you want, volunteer your truck to me... At least you'll know where it went. :D
