Just wondering if anybody has shaved their rear 14 bolt axle for a little extra clearance? I have been wanting to do it, but would love some help and some pics too. Thanks.

What year 14bolt?
I have shaved several of the old version of the Full Floater. Its really not hard to do but you need to have a good amount of time to cut and grind to make it look real good.

Well, It's for my 93 1 ton so it is the 10.5" ring gear full float, but it's not the original. It's a Jasper rebuilt (long story). Just wanting to do it, but have never done it before and would love some info and pics. Thanks for your time.

Just get it on some saw horses and grab a good handfull of sawsall blades.
If you look at the bottom you will see a lip that is about 3/4" tall. This is the lip that hangs you up offroad.
Just cut around the outside of the bolt heads and follow the contour of the center section right below the lip. on the other side. YOu don't wnat to make the bottom of the housing to thin. Don't worry about getting it real clean. Some time spent with a grinder will smooth and contour the bottom how you want it.

I cut even more on the buggy rear end but it only ways 1500 or so pounds in the rear and goes about 500 miles a year so I made it a little thinner and higher.

Well, I'll probably be doing it on my back while it's still under the truck. I have just seen where some axles have to have extra 1/4" stock welded in and just making sure this is not the case with the 14 bolt. Don't want to open up too stinky a can o worms

I have done a few real shave jobs, where I even trimed the ring gear 3/8". But with a grinder just stay a 1/4" or so from the threaded holes.

Very nice, however, I don't want to have to add any steel after doing the shave. I looked at it closer today and should not have to do any welding after cutting the lip off. I do have kind of a lazyass question though, can I shave it with the diff cover on or is it just better to take it off?

Leave it on, leave the bolts in, shave away!

Done it many times.
