: oil leak & white smoke....

Hey guys, I notice considerable white smoke coming from underneath the hood once the truck warms up (above 190 degrees). it's been getting progressively worse over the last 3 months. There is also oil everywhere underneath the hood, but most specificially on the alternator. With very little knowledge when it comes to engines, it looks like to me that the fan is somehow blowing oil onto the alternator. is this even possible? here's what my mechanic did/said:

First he said that there's a technical bulletin that says replacing a PCV valve (like i said, i'm no mechanic) would do the trick. After he replaced that the problem persisted. Now he claims that the PCV valve is still leaking an oil/oil vapor mixture. His idea is that it could be a ring inside the cylinder that is causing the oil/smoke problem, or possibly just a seal that isn't as significant as a seal inside the cylinder. like i said, i'm a civil engineer, i don't understand engines, but the guys on this site sure as hell do.:) any help is appreciated. thanks.
