: Edge getting worse?
bigblockquad 05-20-2005, 09:16 PM Well other than the Beta testers, I was one of the first ones to get the Edge for my LLY back when alot of us did a group purchase. I'm not sure what version it is but I'm sure it's one of the early ones. Here's my problem. Just before the truck gets to about 180 degrees it runs pretty rough when I'm at a long light. I can look into my mirror and see white smoke dribbling out the exhaust. It does this between about 170 and 180 degrees. As it goes over 180 degrees it clears up and does fine. What could be the problem?
I've got another problem that I think is related. Every once in awhile I notice that while cruising I look into my rear view mirror and my truck is just billowing out smoke. It sometimes gives me a slight hesitation like when it's about to go over 180 degrees but I'm at like 210. I nail the throttle and the smoke clears up. It only seems to happen when I've been cruising at the same speed for awhile (74 mph) Is the edge programming going bad and do they have a revision?
Thanks in advance.
McRat 05-20-2005, 09:39 PM Check your injector balance rates. A rough idle, white smoke were the symtoms I saw before I needed 2 injectors replaced.
There is a new version. Its v1.2 for LLY. Send it in. While it is off your truck, go to the dealer and have injectors checked and the pcm updated. If your balance rates are off, they should replace the bad injectors. This should get you back and running strong!!
briano 05-20-2005, 11:07 PM the edge doesn't come on until 180 degrees so that explains it clearing up at that temp and tells me that is your stock ECU or rates. Do as bobo says.. send the edge unit back and have the firmware upgraded and while that is happening take the truck to the dealer. you probably need 2 updates and will need them for the new firmware anyways. here is the info for edge.. its a free upgrade , let us know what happens.
You need to put RMA # 1500 on the outside of the shipping box, address is below. Put some contact info inside the box, it is free under warranty, 2-3 day turn around, after we receive it.
Thanks,
Jared Scholes

BigStu128 05-21-2005, 12:11 AM I had the EXACT same problem with my LLY. Only difference is I don't have a J/A. It would stumble at idle and make all kinds of white smoke. Took it in and #3 injector balance rate was out of spec. New injector and re-flash of the ECU and she is running strong again. Mileage increased too, went from approx 17.5 to almost 20 mpg.
If the dealership gives you trouble, offer to take the service man for a ride. That should erase any doubt, just make sure the Juice and *** are in the garage at home..

marksrt43 05-21-2005, 12:42 AM Have you tried to run the truck without the edge plugged in?
could even be just an intermittent connection.
a free update from the edge guys shouldnt hurt either.:cool2:
Cougar281 05-21-2005, 01:16 AM ...went from approx 17.5 to almost 20 mpg...
When was this and what was the date the new flash was released? My last flash was in or around September, and it made no difference in economy...

they have a 1.5 version for the lly now. I just sent mine in last week and they told me that the 1.5 version is the newest.
bigblockquad 05-22-2005, 08:50 PM Thanks for all the replys guys. The white smoke was start'n to bother me. Guess I'm in for a trip to the dealer to get the thing fixed.
Again thanks
Rich.
Hollywood D-Max 05-23-2005, 12:55 AM The programmer should be able to go up to V.1.5, I bought mine about 2 months ago and when you turn the truck on mine says version 1.5 so you should be able to update it to that!

Per Edge, the version that shows on the Attitude at startup is the version of the Attitude only. They told me the only way to verify the Edge version is by the sticker on the module.

:exactly:
The update is a v1.2 not v1.5. If you search for posts, you will find several on the "new" v1.2 update. You can only find firmware update stickers (v1.2 is newest) on the juice box. When you send your edge in, it is the juice box only. Do not send the attitude monitor. Edge will update your firmware to v1.2. If someone from Edge did tell you there is a v1.5, you need to ask what happened to v1.3 an v1.4. They don't skip versions. They start at v1.0 and go up from there. Right now they are at v1.2 for juice box firmware and it works great.:)
busta 06-09-2005, 12:39 PM So are any of you guys having trouble with v1.2? I had mine upgraded and the driveablity is now horrible. On level 3-3, the shifting is not smooth at all (way worse than v1.0) and seems like the timing of the turbo spooling is way off (is this considered "bursting"?). I've put about 700 miles on v1.2 so the Ally has had plenty of time to relearn itself (although sometimes I wonder if the tranny is "smart challenged" :-). On the stock setting-level 0, the truck shifts just fine and drives very smooth. The truck has about 6000 total miles on it and I've never had the Edge J/A above level 3, never limped the tranny, etc. I just received my Predator yesterday, checked for codes last night, and had none so I assume it's just something with the Edge? I'm going to run the Edge on 0 (just for the gauges) for a while and see how the Predator does. I was just wondering what other's experience with v1.2 was like?
Dmax Tim 06-09-2005, 12:43 PM Mine's running good, was updated end of March.
How old is your fuel filter?
I'd take the truck in and see if any updates need done on the LLY.
busta 06-09-2005, 12:48 PM DMAX Tim,
The filter is original since the truck only has about 6000 miles on it. I was told to change it every other oil change. Is that a good rule of thumb or should I be changing it more often?
The truck was built in Nov.05, so I assumed it had the latest reflash (seems like the latest reflash was in Sept.05) but I guess it couldn't hurt to check.
What settings are you running on your J/A-Predator stack? Eventually I'm thinking about trying Predator-40 and J/A on 1-low boost 3.
D/A Power 06-09-2005, 03:47 PM I've had 1.2 for a while, and the shifting has learned well. Early on, I did have some shifting issues while towing, but have since learned not to use above lvl 1 for heavier loads (per edge). But all in all, I am very satisfied and the shifting is fine. Sorry to hear of your issues and hope you get it figured out.
