I have a 2004 LLY running a Predator on 65HP with no other modifications. I tow fairly light, between 5000 and 6000lbs, on a regular basis. I've felt reasonably safe using the 65HP tune since I don't stomp on it when towing.

I currently have a tank full of B20 and will be towing over the weekend. Has anyone ever checked egt's between conventional diesel and bio? I was wondering if bio might put me in the danger zone when towing or would it help things out.

I haven't done this towing but I've run the predator on various tunes and the edge at various tunes and have not noticed any difference in the EGT's with B20 or regular #2. I don't think the 20% bio will make a lot if difference in how the truck runs except mine seems to run a bit quieter. I noticed when I put a tank full of #2 in it ran like a marble baning around in a tin can (a little exagerated). The Predator runs hotter EGT's than the Edge does with similar tunes on my truck.

Based on my experience so far, you really should have a pyro if you're going to run that tune with the loads you describe.

I really need to run across the scales when I get the chance, but I can hit 1400°F pre-turbo running the same tune pulling what I would guess is about 4500 pounds. I can pull with nearly anything on the road in my area, but the Predator doesn't defuel at all, so just be careful.

If it was me, I'd tow either stock or with the 40 HP tune until you get a pyro.

indeed.... either switch to the 40 tune for towing, or get a gauge. You will be shocked as I was and others here, at how fast the needle pushes into the 1400++'s. I pulled my dutchman this weekend, prob. 8500-9000K with wife, dogs and gear. Pulled consistently 8+9% grades thru 79 in West Va. egts were always steady at 1200-1250. I was running about 65-70. Plenty of pedal, I suppose If I ran any harder, it'd just keep climbing. 1250 Is my personal operating temp. not to exceed 1300. dont ask me why I got there, just did.:cool:

I too was concerned with EGTs with Predator so much I towed my 5er and boat, approx wt. of trailers 10,000K and 70' long, I down loaded the stock program and pulled in it.


It handled it ok. I have a 4" kitty less exhaust, gauges, stock intake. I just recently unplugged my EGR. and WHAT A DIFFERENCE IN EGTs. It runs alot cooler. SO much I put the 40 hp tune back in and plan on pulling my 20' Sea Ray with it in. THis boat wts. about 3,500K not much wt but It will be interesting to see how it does.:grd:

EGT dropped about 100 degrees easily. :ro)

you unpluggeed the egr - do you have ablocker plate?

No blocker plate or finger stick. I really don't know if it is absolutely neccessary. MY mpg went up 1 to 2 mpg and much cooler EGTs.


I am still evaluating whether to install block plate or not. I have no visible codes but I am sure they are there. But Out of Sight out of mind.:ro)
