I have a 1993 turbo 6.5 and my question is can I remove the crankcase vent that goes into the intake to the turbo without hurting anything?
Thank you John

Sure, you just have to vent it somewhere so it doesn't make a mess.

OK Thanks for the advice.

If you don't mine me asking, what exactly is your reason for unplugging it?
Not that its a new subject around here, just wonding what you're trying to accomplish.

The importance of drawing a vacuum on the cranckcase EGR/CDR is to pressure from blowing out seals and more importantly it pulls some of the toxic by-products from combustion blow-by preventing the by-products from prematurely breaking down your oils lubricating and cooling properties. Replacing the vacuum with breathers only prevents pressure from building.

I am plumbing propane injection and saw that I might use the hole for the propane injection instead of for the breather.
I will extend the breather hose to the side and let it vent into a can with steel wool in it.
If I don't have to drill another hole in the intake tubing I will be happier.

Cool, is this a homeade propane injection?
How are you planning to control it?
Can you post pics when you get it set up?

TDG, I made a propane system for my truck about a year ago very cheap and effective if you want some help with one.

I am using an acetylene regulater and a 12 volt solenoid controlled from the dash.
Not very tricky but the price is right.

Can you guys start a thread showing the details of the home made LP system and installation? I would like very much to see it and check out the cost involved.

Ditto, but I want to see some one rig a controller to work off manifold pressure.

If you are talking about the intake manifold pressure, just use a Hobbs pressure switch. They come on at 8psi (slighlty adjustable). That would be easy enough. I have mine hooked up on one noid at the tank with the ignition so the line is charged with engine on. The second noid is in the doghouse and switched to the dash and to the clutch pedal feeding pre-turbo. I have thought about using the pressure switch over the clutch switch, but I use it so rarely that what I have now is plenty fun!

Is it graduated, or can you get one that is? Or is it just ON/OFF?

You could do it graduated with a regulator from a gas conversion kit, but right now it is just on off. I looked into regulating it, but with our diesels, I didn't want to dump too much in. A little bit really adds a nice kick in the pants. Any more and I would be kind of leary. I did do it once with a 1/4" orifice and really got some nice power, but was almost uncontrolable. I backed it down to 1/8" which is still more than enough. If you have never felt the instant power before in a diesel when propane is turned on, when you do, you will be grinning from ear to ear no doubt.
