Not sure if any of you guys experience this, may be a redundant design to keep block heads like me from running the tank dry, but 2 times I ve run the gas gauge to E and when the fuel light comes on, I fill up. the first time it took 28.2 gallons and the second, like 27.4... Now my truck is a LB so it should have a 34 gallon tan, right> that means the resivior is like 6 gallonshttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/confused.gif http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/confused.gif http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/confused.gif

I did a search and found some similiar stuff referring to foam tricking the float etc. but 6 + gallons?

i never let the light come on mine, but the one time my wife took the truck, i got it back with the gas light on, go figure. anyways - i have a 26 gallon tank and it only took 22 point something gallons, so mine was about 4 gallons left when the light came on. percentage wise, thats probably the same as your 6 gallons. its kinda nice to know there is that much safety factor, but i wonder how low it could get and the fuel pump actually still pickup.

on the other hand, if you think about it - my tank is about 3 feet long, 2 feet wide and a foot high, yours is slightly bigger. so 4 or 6 gallons spread out over 6 square feet is probably only an inch or two.

I have a short box with the 26 gallon tank. When my idiot light comes on to refuel, I have 4 gallons left, so I conservatively figure I could go another 50 miles or so, but typically go and fill right up. It usually will take right around 22 gallons. With yours being a bigger tank, that sounds about right to me.

This is odd because I remember a while ago guys were posting that the low fuel light was really a "outta fuel light". There were a few guys who got stuck on the side of the road priming the fuel system.
