Hey guys I just finished replacing all 4 rotors and front/rear brakes on my 04 2500hd with 95k miles on it due to the "spongy feel" I have been reading so much about and yes I was thinking about upgrading brakes until I read heymccalls posts about brakes and in my opinion he is dead on. My fronts werent that bad and made no difference in the "spongy feel" then I inspected my rears and sure enough the inboard pads were frozen on their sliders and the inboard pads only had half the contact surface they should.I cleaned and preped the brakes according to heymccalls writeup and several things happened
1-the spongy feel is no longer there
2-when stepping on the brake pedal it only moves about an inch or two and feels real good when before the brake pedal would travel half way to the floor.
Here is what my rotors looked like.

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww-:t. Those are hideous:bleah:.

Glad you're a believer:ro), and, now, you'll still need to check 'em at least once a year.

Converting non-believers by repetition, one truck at a time. Post # 7, post # 7, post #7, post # 7, Post #7,,

Dang and that after 95K? I have 159K and mine are still in good shape. I inspect them every six months.

the funny thing is when I bought the truck about 2yrs and 20k miles ago the dealer had just replaced an axle seal on the pass. side so they must have seen the brakes and rotors. The thing is there was no grinding noise or other issues except low pedal.

They may have changed rotors at that time, 2yr/20k is long enough to make that happen up here.

Brakes feel good, right? My truck stops like a champ after following Heymccall's advice. As a matter of fact, I'd better give them a once over before the salt hits the ground.
