: Well she just stalled on me

I guess this is similar to the issue posted in previous postings but maybe a bit different. I was backing out of a spot and my truck dies out. Pushed her back into the space and she would not start. Primed some fuel through and she barely started then died. Primed some more fuel and I kept the truck revved up and it stayed running and got me home. I filled it up to be sure I wasnt out of diesel, which I wasnt. I just got home and figured I check here to see what the possible culprit could be. The fuel filter was changed 5k miles ago and once shes started she'll stay running. Any ideas on what the issue I'm looking at could be. The truck has about 60K on it.

Mine did the same thing. Turns out the water sensor on th bottom of the filter was loose.

I'll double check that but why would that only be an issue during start. Once started I drove my truck over 30 miles home and she seemed to run just fine.

Had a similar issue a couple weeks ago. The plastic lip that holds the o-ring for the fuel filter had cracked. Truck started one day, the next day it started, idled for 10 sec and died. Primed the filter, and drove it for the day. Next morning, same routine.

With 5k on the filter, I would go ahead and replace it. If no change, you might try pressurizing the fuel system.

Pressurizing the fuel system...What is that and how do I do so. I appreciate the help.

only need a little pressure....3-4psi

Thanks a ton. I really appreciate the advice. If you dont, can you go over the steps to pressurize it and hwere are the best places to look.

Like what do I use for pressure and how do I know I'm at the right psi. Sorry if these questions are dumb, but the help is appreciated.

After making the fuel tank cap, you'll need an air compressor. Worst case, you can use an bicycle tire pump. Then use a tire pressure gauge to check tank pressure at the cap. If using an air compressor, go slow. If you over pressure the tank (a good bit more than 4psi) you risk blowing a seam or hose. Once it's pressurized, start at the tank, checking the lines for leaks. Work your way forward to the fuel filter housing. Then continue from the housing to the cp3. It gets very tight around the supply lines so a small flashlight or pen light will come in handy.

One last note...If you do this with a low fuel level (~1/4 tank) is will take significantly more air to get to 3-4psi, but will get you more control of the pressure. Doing it with more than 3/4 tank will take a smaller amount of air but pressure will rise quicker. This can make a big difference if you are using an air compressor that supplies 100psi and you only want 3-4. Good Luck!

I have used the pressure side of the shop vac-- be sure to cover the hose with a rag to filter any dirt! Will not over pressurize the tank!

Damn good idea. Hell, a new shop vac filter (to eliminate the possible dirt in the tank) is less than a new fuel cap if someone were pinching pennies.

Mine does this sometimes.. I don't know what the heck does it. It seems to do it more often when parked on a steep incline. I just prime the filter a few times and she fires right up.. I was wondering if it were FPRV related. I may have to try pressurizing my tank.

I would highly doubt that it's an FPRV issue. The FPRV is after the CP3, so if the FPRV was causing you problem you would have a CP3 issue also.

If you don't see any problems and are sure that it's not fuel filter related then the best bet is probably to pressurize the tank.
