: Blue or Red Trans Filter
ob--one 09-11-2009, 08:13 AM Odd, today got my TES-295 fluid and also got an OEM filter. All filters from GM have been red, this one is blue. Same number, same box. AC Delco on the filter as is the Duraguard label. Was nice to see the filter is made on this side of the world, made in USA.
kst8er 09-12-2009, 01:57 PM last one i bought was red... from allison service shop
Everybody in this country should make certain that anything they buy is made in the USA, and buy oem parts for their car and truck. Everything that comes from ch--a is friggin JUNK...
ob--one 09-13-2009, 06:27 PM Sorry, I think what I really meant to say was where does the red filter come from. Bought it from the dealer but no markings on any of the last 3 red filters. The blue one I just bought from GM is marked with the GM logo. So who made the others that were red and were purchased from the dealer and came in a GM box?
NelsonDiesel 09-13-2009, 06:48 PM the red ones are genuine allison ones. (in a delco box) They also carry a price tag 3 - 4 times the cost of a filter straight through allison.
My dealer is an allsion dealer so i get the ones in the allison box ....
have any pics of this filter?
JD4440 09-13-2009, 07:47 PM great, if GM they'll be as high as the fuel filters.
Mike L. 09-13-2009, 09:58 PM If you have a red filter without markings it is from china and is garbage. Allison just changed their filter design recently.
Dirtbikindad393 09-14-2009, 01:06 AM I only carry the red genuine Allison filters made in the USA. I am a firm believer in getting small things like this that are made in the USA.

Red ones came in an OEM box, but I am curious, what is the new design change?
JD4440 09-14-2009, 10:41 PM I noticed the gasket is wider
wreedLBZ 09-15-2009, 12:05 AM I just got some in a differnet Allison box I have ever seen and the gasket was way thicker.
gmmech 09-15-2009, 12:32 AM I remember when I bought them from the dealer a few years ago and they were in a allison box. then they started putting it in a acdelco box. I noticed recently the allison from gm in a delco box has the words upside down when the filter is on the transmission. the filter from a allison dealer in a allison box has the words right side up. I agree if its red and doesnt say allison its an imposter. Has anybody noticed that when you put the magnet on a wix/carquest/napa filter that it covers up part of the oil holes? I think it has to restrict flow somewhat.
HDGMC 09-15-2009, 02:54 AM I remember reading a quite few years back that there was a problem with people making counterfeit parts, all painted and boxed to look just like the OEM. They were everywhere, even at the dealers, who either knowingly, or were duped into buying them. Is this still going on? Is that why the printing was up side down?

Have been too busy to swap the fluid and filter. I will hopefully geterdun this weekend and will get pics of the filter. As I said these red filters came in an OEM box with the GM #'s etc.

This "used" to be the case. Napa/WIX/Affina have since redesigned the filter to accomodate the magnet.
ob--one 09-21-2009, 07:19 PM Was an Allison filter. I didn't remember seeing any markings on the red one when I installed the filter. The gasket is considerably thicker on the newer filter though. The TES295 is in and the transmission is smiling!
NelsonDiesel 09-21-2009, 08:54 PM nice !
rocketman 09-21-2009, 10:18 PM The red Ally filter is made in Findlay, Ohio, on an assembly line that sits right next to the line that makes all of Honda's blue oil filters.... hmmmmm.

Allison has moved to champion (IL). Not sure about the AC Delco parts.
The new filters have a label on them with the writing and logo vs. being printed on the canister directly. Either way, you can be sure that they're fully checked out for performance.
Picked up a couple of Allison filters yesterday from a Detroit/Allison dealer while driving home. The box has a Allison design on it, says Made in U.S.A. As said, has a wider gasket. Red filter. They charged me $10.00 a piece. I use only the oem's...
wreedLBZ 09-24-2009, 03:02 PM Can you post a pic of the new box?
The new box has a darker blue color, the new logo is oval with the writing Allison Automatic, Genuine Parts in the oval, top of box is blue and white, the logo and the # 29539579, Transmission Filter, Made in U.S.A. One side of the box says, It's Allison along with the oval, and other side says, Allison Transmission, Inc. Indianapolis, Indiana 46206 with the oval. I am not good at all with a camera posting pics.
Dirtbikindad393 09-24-2009, 06:52 PM Can you post a pic of the new box?
Pictures may be blurry but I rushed doing it.
Old box on right new box on left in each picture with corresponding filter. The gasket is larger on the new filter on the left than the old filter on the right. They are both made in the USA.
When you buy them from me, Buy 3 or more and get a break on pricing. Buy 6 or more and get a deeper discount.

Look in my pictures you can see the stencil on each filter. The new one is different than the old one.
wreedLBZ 09-25-2009, 07:39 AM Yep mine looks the same, for a seconds I thought I got a knock off.
slackerjpt 01-19-2010, 02:00 PM Hi all, I just had my spin on changed at the deeler. Driving home I noticed my tranny shifting all over the place. When I went to change my engine oil I noticed that the filter on the tranny was blue, not the red Allisin filter. I called the dealer and it was the same part # as the red one. The parts dept said that this is the filter GM is sendinig them and that it appears to be AC delco not Allison. I'm a bit pissed and just ran out to buy an Allison filter. Not sure what to think or if it's the same filter.
Crafty1 01-19-2010, 05:02 PM I think its the same filter. GM has been buying their own parts directly from the source since the split beween Allison and GM. If you look at the pictures of the filter on the previous page there's a comparison of an AC Delco and an older Allison spin-on. The source of the filters changed last year. New supplier has a taller seal and the part number and name are on a label instead of being printed directly on the can.
slackerjpt 01-19-2010, 10:15 PM I hope that he kept the magnet on with this ACDELCO filter. I purchased an allison filter and will be changing it. I just don't want to take any chances and can't afford any problems with my truck right now.

slackerjpt 01-19-2010, 10:18 PM I'm wondering why the new design and larger gasket?
JD Diesel 01-23-2010, 10:37 AM Whats with the freakin china filters. Got one from auto parts store, made in china. It ain't goin on mine......JD
Crafty1 01-25-2010, 09:14 AM I'm wondering why the new design and larger gasket?
Just a new supplier. Genuine Allison and GM filters are still made in the USA.
69 MOD 01-25-2010, 02:24 PM Ok I have a question now....
When I switched my spin on there wasn't a magnet in it, on it or around it....what gives?
Is it attached to the tube that goes down in the filter opening because that stayed on the transmission itself when I pulled it down.

It probably was thrown away when the filter was changed previously. I carry them if you need one and if you need more American made Allison spin-ons I have over 60 in stock.
steakman 01-26-2010, 11:45 PM hat's quite a difference in gasketing.! I like it.! I just bought a spare red OEM Allision spin-on last week from my Allison Dealer (Harper), here in Sudbury, Ontario..still the old type. I guess it takes a while for things to "filter" their way up North.
Still, I only pay $13.75 per filter in CAD...GM Dealer wanted well over $35 or something like that. As if..
