I have a 95 gmc suburban with a 6.5 td with 188,000 miles on it. It's been very dependable for the 85,000 miles our family has driven it. The truck is not driven every day. About a month ago while driving about 60 mph the truck what I describe as a hickup, but stayed running and we finished our trip with no other issues. About two weeks ago the truck stalled while comming to a stop at about 30mph but it restared with no problem while still coasting. It drove the next 20 miles to home with no other hickup or stalling. Three days ago in the AM I got about two miles from home when it hickuped but kept running for another 1/4 mile when it died while accelerating from a stop. I had to wait about 10 min for it to restart. When it did restart I drove it back home with out problem. Since then I have replaced the oil sending switch and the lift pump on advice of a former G.M. tech. However the stalling is becoming worse and the time I have to wait for it to restart is becoming longer. I know that the injector pump was replaced under warranty at 98,000 miles in 1997 just before I bought the truck. The local GMC store looked at it and wants $2700.00 for a new injector pump. Does this sound like the typical pump problem or more of a PMD issue? What luck has anyone had with rebuilt pumps? Any response welcome. Thanks

I think you should try the fuel supply first. Open the air bleed or the drain T at idle and check for fuel pressure.

Rebuilt pump will be a third that price, just specify you want a new PMD, warranty is pretty much 1 year no matter where you get it from.

It is almost certainly the fuel solenoid driver (FSD) aka PMD. I had the same problem. Check out Heath diesel for a new one with a remote cooler. There is a new one made by Remarq that is supposed to be guaranteed for 5 years ( I think). Pricey, but might be worth it. I replaced mine myself by using a screwdriver to prize the wire holder from the PMD on the pump, and simply connecting it to a remote mount PMD. I did not remove the manifold.
