If you have the EC, do you regret not getting the CC?

If you have the CC SB, do you regret not getting the EC LB?

When you go to replace your existing truck, will you get same or different?

I know, lotta damn questions. LOLOL

No regrets here!!! As you can see in my signature CC, SB. I tow a 30ft (11k lbs+ loaded) 5th wheel toy hauler using a Reese 16K sliding hitch with no problems. I've owned a few trucks, mostly Chevys and this by far is the best.

I traded my EC GMC w/184,000 mi and liked the CC, but went with the EC. I did not see enough room for two 12" subs in the CC.Edited by: easymon4u

No regrets w/my EC. Altho originally p.o'd that they made the extra doors std ~ but I'm over that now. I can appreciated those loving their CC but there's just the missus and I ~ the EC is just fine ~ plus after >30yrs of imports ~ I'm still working at adjusting how big everything is.

My first CC now.. I regret not doing this along time ago... I always had ex cabs, but thats likely because I always had 1/2 tonners... By far the best truck I have owned

I love my CC SB. The crew cad is only like 3" longer and a ton better. fold the seats down in a CC then go fold the seat of a EC up, no contest. Roll down the window in he back of an EC, oh yeah, you can't. Ever take an EC to home depot? Open the front door so you can open the back door, of coarse so jerk is parked close to you, it's a little tuff to load up. These are some of the things I hear when guys I'm talking to are wishing they went with the CC. As far as the LB/SB debate goes, I'll stick with the short. The reality of it is that the SB is 6 3/4' long. That's plenty of room for most people. I have a LB HD 6.0 at work and it sucks, plain and simple, i don't just mean the engine either. That 15-16" really makes a big difference in maneuverability. The only time that extra bed really comes in handy is one or twice a year when we get ply wood. I'd rather haul some stuff with the gate down than deal with the length all the time. Last but not least, the CC LB of any brand has a nick name up here, "circus wagon" because they look goofy when they're not a dually.
That just my opinion, you're welcome...

I agree. For me cost was an issue this time, next time I will get the CC. Also, I have the bucket seats. With the 3 yr old in his car seat his feet come to rest on the center console. I'm not sure if he could reach it in a CC.

You don't say what you plan on using the truck for?

I've driven Dooleys since '85. My preference is EC mostly due to the fact that the CC is 12" longer and the short bed configuration isn't even a consideration for what I want to do with a truck.

I could have bought a CC right off the lot around here that was equiped just like I wanted. In fact, that's what I drove since a local dealer had one with everything I wanted and I'd not driven a D/A. I even took it and tried it in the garage. It's just too big. This new EC is three inches longer than the old one, so the CC was fifteen inches longer. It does make a difference in the turning radius as well.

So you need to decide what you're going to use it for and how many people you'll usually have with you will be part of that consideration.

edit info:

Just looking at the brochure for the trucks and the one I have shows a two inch difference between the 2500 and 3500 overall length of the EC LB trucks, that can't be right? Shows the 2500 being two inches longer. The 3500 shows 11.5 inches longer for the CC over the EC, while the 2500 shows 9.5 inches longer. They should be the same I think, misprint maybe? Oh well, if you're really that interested in the exact figures, head on over to GM's web site...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gifEdited by: Zeeb

I have a CC/SB and wanted a LB but they were tough to find, maybe the "circus wagon" comment is why they're not made much. It works out because I haul plywood and lumber for projects a few times a year but mainly haul items that are packed. The other big thing is fits in my garage. The LB wouldn't and I have a deep garage. I second everyones opinion that it really matters what you're going to do with yours. Just because ours work for us, you might not like them for the reasons we like ours.

Like Eric, I regret not waiting back in 00 and buying a 1/2 ton again, until last year. Although I have missed my long box from time to time, it just wouldn't have fit in my garage, and I just don't have the funds right now to build a new house to go with my truck.

This is my first EC. Had regular cabs and 3 SB half tons. I drove a CC LB, for work, back in the 80's and I agree with the Circus Wagon comment, plus it was hell to maneuver in parking lots, and got 8 mpg with its small block 350. I don't miss it.

I really don't see much of a diff between LB and SB.

I wanted a long bed because once you put a tool chest in a short bed, you don't have much bed to work with. It is a little aggravating in parking lots at times, but mainly because of people who don't know how to park a small vehicle.

I have the rubberized floors in my truck, SLE w/cd & cassette. It was available for the '03 but you would probably have had to order it. I had to order mine to get it the way I wanted it.

I've got the CC SB and love it. An EC would have been fine for the kids now but they're not getting any smaller and I remember the salesman in the back of the EC telling me "its not that bad". No, not for a 1/2 test drive! I wasn't real fond of the doors on the EC for the reasons BlueOx03 mentions. The CC has worked really well for the family. I have had a couple of occasions where a long bed would have been nice but that is when I use my dump trailer. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

I would say that after test driving the EC and CC I liked the feel of the CC better. I guess it comes down to how you plan on using your truck.

I went from a EC to a CC, more room for passengers, leg room, more junk I can throw inside the truck rather then leaving it in the bed. DVD player is great for the kids. CC. I would buy another one in a heartbeat. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif

we went from an EC SB Z71 to a CC LB 3500 .... certainly was a considerable change in both length and width .... can personally understand the concerns expressed that deal with parking/general handling of such a large vehicle .... all that said, wouldn't change a thing http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif .... I do have to walk further to get to the door at Wal-Mart but consider that a small price to pay for the interior room, comfort, and hauling capacity provided by our truck

Crew Cab and Short Box is great. No regrets. I would do it again. Up until 5 years ago, I'd always had regular cab long box trucks. Then went with an extended cab short box. This was great for getting to use the truck as a family vehicle, but took me back to the 2 door coupe days. Kids and two doors are a pain. Even when my second extended cab had 4 doors, it was always a pain to open the front door in order to open the back. It's just plain a hassle.

When the 2003's first came out, I almost bought a 2500HD extended cab. Then I decided it was financially foolish to buy a new truck when I still owed money on my 2001 with 11,000 miles. But by January 2003 I was able to pay off the 2001 and the deals were so good on the 2003 trucks I couldn't resist. I took the family down to the dealer to see how much more room my 5'6" daughter would have in the back of the crew cab over the extended cab and that's all it took. We ordered one and haven't looked back since.

As for short or long box, I prefer the SB because of hauling a 32 foot travel trailer (not 5th wheel). I've had a couple of times about three less feet in total vehicle length would have made parking the trailer easier. But overall I'm grateful not to have any larger vehicle. I love the crew cab. My wife doesn't care for it's size (all she ever drove was the 1996 or 2001 extended cab truck, unless going for groceries when she took the Tahoe) and hasn't driven the crew cab only 2 or 3 times since we got it. So that means it's always available for me to drive.

This is my first CC LB.

I've had Xcab SB and CC SB previously.

I like the space of the CC LB, but it sure is alot more vehicle to park than the CC SB!!

No regrets, but I think next time I'll go back to CC SB.

My only other full size pickup was a standard cab, so this is my first EC and I've never considered a CC (being single and childless). I really like the EC, as it gives me plenty of room and a shorter wheelbase. I DO, however get a little frustrated sometimes when I'm "trapped" between the doors in a parking lot trying to juggle a grocery cart in the gap between another vehicle and the two doors.

I've had over a dozen EC LB and 1/2 ton SB but always go LB for my truck, between hauling farm and construction supplies, 10' or 13' pvc pipe and the fuel tank/toolbox plus can't forget the 9.5' camper.

The last 3 trucks have been CC LB and the extra room when hunting and Boyscout campouts is nice.

I couldn't find a LB. Now they are a special order item, which I wish I had done, and the only LB's dealers get in are regular cabs. Now they are making even shorter beds. I have had seven pickup's since 1974 and this is the first time I had to order a long bed if I wanted one. The dealer said people want them for a car now. I say if they want a car buy one and leave the trucks to being a truck.http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif Edited by: joheath

Truck list is long due to quick turn around leases but the 2 d-maxes were purchased.

1998 Yokon, usless towing but GREAT ride.

1999 454 cc sb 2500, felt like 3/4 of a truck.

2000 (in 1999) cc dually 3500, and loved it. Kept until lease end and returned with head gasget leaks and 5 replaced rims that were bent from factory.

2001 ex, sb duramax/allison and like it a lot but didn't give me the stopping power needed to pull the fiver safely. See pictures on link.

2002 cc, lb duramax/allison and love it. Bigger is better, oh yeah. I have no problem parking at either jobs and for the ambulance runs when light and siren are going people move out of the way. My truck his its quarks.

1 thing I miss alot is a good automatic car wash. If I move to Chicago I will trade for new 3500 cc, lb without the duals. Oh yeah if girl friend/wife approves.

No regrets here. I went from an 88 std to truck in sig. Wife insisted on CC as we are nearing retirement and wanted to have adults in back. I wanted SB to get it in the grarage. I believe my days of hauling for building projects are behind. This truck is my daily driver and us used to pull the 5er in sig.

On the last time out last fall with the 5er, my wife indicated that she had no regrets with this choice. The D/A is great and she enjoys the heated leather bucket seats.

we purchased this truck used (12996mi) and in 7 months we are at 24500.

Can't wait for spring and we can use the newer 5er we purchased this fall.

I wanted a CC SB Dually. Chevy does not make one. Ford does now. When I test drove the CC LB Dually and compared it to the EC LB Dually the extra 9 inches or so in the wheel base seemed like a football field. The only pain in the ass is in parking lots when I have a full truck. I think my next truck will be a CC SB 2500. I really do not need the dually. It just looks very cool from behind, kinda like J LOs ass.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wink.gif http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gif

I have the EC and I think I would rather have the CC. I bought the EC so it would fit in the garage, but we bought a Suburban (we also have a 96 Caprice 5.7) so now it gets the garage spot and the truck is in the pole barn. I would also have gotten the LT model instead of the LS.

After having two crew cab dually's, I know have an EC dually. when I went to my dealer to trade my 01 silverado for an 04 he had several crew cabs available but none had the options or one of the colors I preferred. he did have one EC in black with the options I wanted. I told hom if only it was a crew cab, he said why don't you drive it and see how it differs from the 01. I did and the rest is history. I couldn't believe how much difference thoe few inches of wheelbase length meant. it drove and rode better than either of my crew cabs, and the turning radius is so much better. I need the long bed, and for the difference in handling the EC is just fine for me.

No regrets with a CC SB except maybe the extra 6 gallons of fuel in the LB. But with the Duramax I still can go as far as I want to in a day with my fifth wheel without fueling. I had some concerns about the trailer kissing my rear window but with this super glide hitch I don't even think about it.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

The CC makes for a lot of comfort for those you need to haul on occasion and we can usually get all of our Costco trip into it without a fuss. The split fold-down seats even makes it more versatile on a trip with 3 people.

The SB allows me to get it into the garage, just barely, but its in and I can get out and close the door! It also isn't too bad to park at the mall (I can't even image parking a CC LB).

Regrets, no way!!

This is my 1st CC and the ability to carry the family is great! We only need to use 1 vehicle to take the boat to the lake.

SB is fine for the little I need/use it, wouldn't want to scratch the bedliner!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif If I need to haul anything I just use my 4 wheeler trailer. If I want/need to use 4 wheel drive I just use the 4 wheeler, wouldn't want to get the CCSBDA dirty.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif Afterall, I only bought it for the looks, oh, and the power. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil Smile.gif

I debated greatly on SB vs. LB. I finally decided on the LB because it drove smoother, appears to have a tighter turning radius, extra bed space, larger fuel tank and IMHO looks better. The LB is only 20" longer, and made very little difference when parking. I test drove the CC SB and the CC LB. They are both tough to parallel park and to hit the small malls with. Again a tough choice, just do not want the SB when the LB is inexpensive and fits my needs better. Good luck in your choice.

My Ex Cab SB fits my needs perfectly. My kids would have liked the CC better, but they complain about everything anyway. I use a wheelchair a good bit of the time and it is much easier to open the rear suicide door and throw the thing in than it would have been with a regular door. The shorter wheelbase helps in parking at work where the tail end would have been an invitation to some clown to bash. Oh, and have you ever had to maneuver a CC LB in San Francisco? There's not enough blood pressure medication in the world to make that fun.

I have to agree it depends on your exact needs, but here are some things to consider. I had a 2001 EC LB 3500 and it was fine. I then got a 2002 CC LB 3500 and the difference inside is unbelievable. I'm 6'9" and can sit in the back no problem in the CC, its that big. Plenty of room to throw all the groceries in and then some. It's just nice to have. I think the price difference between EC and CC is about 500-1000 depending on where you look, so that really shouldn't be an issue. Trim level is up to you, I have a Centurion, so that's a bit different than the GM stuff, but I'd probably go for the LT.

I think the biggest thing to think about is when comparing to the SUV's. A Tahoe or Suburban costs just as much as one of these trucks. If you were to get a CC, you essentially have the same seating room as a Tahoe, yet still have the utility of a truck. Plus, you get the D/A instead of the gasser, which means about 5mpg better and better performance to boot.

I personally like the look of the dually, so I went with it and had no choice in bed length. Parking can be a pain sometimes, but if you know how to drive parking isn't that bad. Worst case you park out in the open and then you don't have to worry about anyone dinging your truck.

I don't have a garage, but I can see how the LB CC won't fit in a standard size, it is long, but I personally would rather have the extra length for those rare occassions you need it. It's nice to know I have the biggest truck you can get, so there are no instances where I'll be second guessing my decision to buy it.

Hope this helps.

I came out of a 2002 Avalanche, so I knew I wanted a crew cab. I carry more people than I do cargo, so it was important to have more rear seat room than extra bed space.

The comment above about putting a tool/storage box in the bed is valid; once you do that with a short bed, you don't have a helluva lot of room left. I don't use a tool box, so the short bed suited me fine.

I have no regrets, and would buy the same truck again. The more I drive it, the more I like it.

Good thread.
