: FSD Heat-Sync kit survey
Jess_sr 09-10-2009, 07:56 PM I'm asking for a review of who's kit did you buy and where you installed it.
My son just recenty purchased a 95 K2500 with the FSD still on the pump.
I want to get this taken care of before I get the dreaded phone call in the middle of the night.:help:
Green Machine 09-10-2009, 08:17 PM I didn't buy mine, it was on the truck when I bought it back in Jan 2007. It is the SSD Heatsink on the side of the intake. Not sure how long it has been there but I haven't had to change it yet so its been about 3 years there probably... People don't like it there though.. thats why people move it behind the bumper.
BlueBurby1 09-10-2009, 10:29 PM ditto on the intake heat sync
but i keep a spare plus cable just in case
IamDave0887 09-10-2009, 10:39 PM I bought the Heath PMD Isolator and installed it per specs behind the front bumper, after the truck started surging and stalling. The PMD was on the pump when i bought the truck.

Yeah, I have the spare and everything i need to replace it with inside the truck at all times lol .
jjw565 09-10-2009, 11:34 PM The guy I bought my truck from did half the work, he extended the harness and moved the PMD to a cavity behind the turn signal. Unfortunately it didn't get any air flow there and he had no heat sink on it so it started stalling out on me.
He did give me a spare unit he had kicking around though so I bought a $30 heat sink from some company online and just tapped 4 holes in it and stuck it under my bumper on the bracket for my push bar. Its been working fine for the past year and its always nice and cool.
mamzerook 09-11-2009, 01:15 AM I have a Heath kit, But any one of them, mounted outside the engine bay will do.
The Heath one has 7 years warranty.
TedReminder 09-11-2009, 06:39 AM Mine was on the pump for 200,000 miles plus. Never a problem with the PMD.
Had a homemade heat sink and a couple drivers ready though.

Kartoon 09-11-2009, 07:09 AM I bought a brand new PMD from a member here(who still has a brand new one for sale BTW) and bought an extension harness and heatsink from pmdcable.com. It will be behind the bumper tomorrow
guybb3 09-11-2009, 02:11 PM Homemade heatsink behind the bumper/license plate. If I had it to do again I would buy a cable rather than extend my own.
DangerousDave 09-12-2009, 12:17 AM Homegrown Heath clone; bought n aluminum plate, Dipaco FSD, Tim's (Accurate Diesel) extension cable (IIRC), electrinics heat sink compound, and my own screws n nuts. Behind bumper mount; No more fishbite / die in middle of intersection, push it out and dump my cold "soda" from the cooler on it to get it started again PMD. Hard to explain why the motor smells like a beer and the driver doesn't.
BigBlueChevy 09-12-2009, 02:08 PM Jesse if its not to late by next Friday I'll drop by and show you mine. Give you a rough idea as to how you can put it together seeing as you enjoy rubbing in how yours is mechanical lol.
Spent less than 100 bucks on mine if money is an issue. This is of course assuming that the PMD is still in good shape
Jess_sr 09-12-2009, 02:11 PM Anybody ever mount one in front of the radiator where there would be more air flow?
I think out of the engine compartment would be the best only because I know it gets well over 200f in the summer under that hood.

Sounds good..:beerchug:
acesneights1 09-12-2009, 08:24 PM You can buy a sync and cable and PMD off ebay(not edam) and put it behind the bumper yourself. I got all my stuff for my 95 from Accurate. His cable was excellent. Bumper nostril IMHO is the best place. I had the Heath one on my 2000 but had to remount it due to the plow frame.
Franko914 09-15-2009, 05:24 PM SS Diesel's FSD/heat sink kit mounted on the intake plenum in the engine compartment. FSD failed big-time one hot summer day (bubbled through epoxy). Replaced FSD but remounted it behind/below front bumper. I chose not to extend the cable myself, but I forgot where I purchased the extension cable from -- used silicone grease (bulb grease) on the connectors and silicone/rubber seals. Remember to ground FSD back to fuel injection pump (per Turbine Doc).
Hoyt572 09-16-2009, 11:45 AM I have one made by fsd, and its mounted on the top of the intake like everyone doesen't like, but so far its held up good been there for almost 50,000miles so must be workin.
jjw565 09-16-2009, 01:05 PM Anybody ever mount one in front of the radiator where there would be more air flow?
I am thinking once you shut the truck off on a hot day and there is no more air flow it would heat soak pretty bad in front of a hot radiator.
I think the best place is the nostril or under the bumper somewhere out of harms way.
Joe Palmer 09-16-2009, 04:13 PM D-Tech with heat sink, behind bumper. Home made harness twisted, soldered & shrink wrapped.
deadveg 09-16-2009, 06:12 PM heath kit and mounted it per instructions...
deadveg 09-16-2009, 06:13 PM jjw565, nice truck...i'm in ob!
coolhand12gauge 09-17-2009, 12:14 AM I got one from Accurate diesel with a number 9 resistor already in it! then I ordered a resistor from SSD then found out I didnt need it. so I sent it back for a credit and got a air intake.
Its great and I love it. I woudnt want the bumper mount though cause its too exposed to the elements such as mud, cactus, dust, snow, water, sand and other such things as that
