Title pretty much holds the entire question. What is the most common wheel width for Heavy rated tires so I get the ideal rim size.

Also diameter, probably 18" right?

Thanks

does my question make sence? Just need to know what rim width and diameter is most common for running some heavy rated tires, maybe 1 class up from stock 1 ton tires. Preferably 265 width, 17-18" Any ideas?

most tires will recommend a width range. i would say as long as you stay in that range you will be fine. in my experience the wider tires give you more stability

Most of the tires which are rated for heavy loads are in the 16" and 17" rim diameter. There are a few 285 wide tires that have a load rating of 3900# per tire. If you really want the top load rating go with the 19.5 rims for 4500# per tire.

I just jot a set of the Boulder H2 rims which are 17x8.5 and plan to put 285/70-17 Hankook tires on them which are rated at 3750# each.

thanks, wider 3500 rims or wider going to be significant enough in weight handling to bother replacing the 2500 wheels?

What load rating are you looking for? IF you throw some load range E tires on your truck you shuld be fine unless you are way overloading the truck.. Factory wheels will hold whatever the truck is rated for plus some IMO.

I have a set of 16x8 Eagle Alloy wheels that have a load rating of 3250# per wheel. This fits nicely with my 265x75-16 E rated GoodYears. I know the wider wheel is more stable than the 6.5 stock wheels were.

i have a dump insert in mine which wasnt an anticipated add on when I bought the truck. Now I want to bump it up to a 1 ton or better. I realize it wont raise the weight rating legaly

you'd be better off getting a different truck. commercial vehicle division enforcement in my state carry portable scales to assess overloaded vehicles. the cost of a single violation will make you wish you'd spent the time/money to do it right! seriously...
