:help: I am putting my 6.5 L turbo diesel back together. I just recently pulled the engine and had it rebuilt. While putting her back together, I have stumbled upon one piece I just can't find where it goes. It is a heat shield about 12" long or so slotted on both ends. I had a small bracket taped to it with bolt holes on both ends of it also. The shield would be about 3 1/2" tall and has a curve in to maybe go around the exhaust manifold. I am almost certain that it goes in this area but just need some help. A picture is worth a thousand words, but haven't located one that shows this piece yet. I can also tell where wire loom has been in close contact with it also, if that helps.

You have to have a sheild on the starter and all the wires should be behind it or the downpipes heat will fry them. one on each injector bank too.

Sounds like the one that goes between the turbo and passengers side exhaust, isolates the exhaust from the injector lines, see if there's a slot molded into it to fit around the turbo oil drain tube, its a snug fit in there.

I'd second that I had the Turbo on and did the same thing until my buddy said,
"you don't remember that you took it off!" DOYING I could not remember for the life of me, but got it on. (after removing TURBO again)!:(

I believe that Quantum Mechanic hits the homerun. I have installed the flat shield that fit between the injectors and the turbo. Now that you mention about the starter, you did job the ole memory. I tore this thing down about a month ago.
Thanks
