: Allison Fluid Brownish after 7500 mi.!!!
BigWill_21 05-19-2005, 10:41 AM I am at 15,600 miles on my 04.5... I ran the OEM Fluid until about 8,000 mi. and at that time dropped the pan and installed a new filter and dropped in Amsoil Torque-Drive(or whatever it is called)..
I change the spin on every 3,000-3,5000 with my OIL just for insurance!!!
I checked the fluids yesterday and the Tranny fluid is Brownish and has a slight burnt smell!!! I HAVE NOT TOWED ANYTHING over 6,500 Lbs. and that was for about 15 minutes...
I run the Edge in Level 2 or 3 about 90% of the time!!! Tranny guage never reads above 185* and thats with our recent 85* weather!!!!
My dad seems to think that I have to much fluid in it, and it is reading alot overthe full mark!!!! COULD THIS EFFECT the TRANSMISSION FLOW abilities and could it be cuasing some overheating that isn't being registered on the Dash Guages!!!
ANY IDEAS??
THANKS
WILL
marcdeluca 05-19-2005, 11:45 AM I would recommend pulling a sample and getting an oil analysis. It will tell you more than anything else short of a teardown.
BigWill_21 05-19-2005, 04:27 PM Who and how would I go about this????
Mike L. 05-19-2005, 05:31 PM I would contact your Amsoil rep and run it by him. I am sure they would like to know if somethings wrong.
mike
BigWill_21 05-19-2005, 06:31 PM I buy directly from Amsoil... My self and my dad are I guess what some call Dealers, but we mainly buy for our personal use and occasionally for locals!!!
MIKE, do you have any experience with AMSOIL in the tranny??? I figured most ran AMSOIL in thier rigs!!!
ALSO, i have searched for the OIL ANALYSIS info, and haven't ahd much luck!!
THANKS

WYOMAX 05-19-2005, 09:11 PM Amsoil has a kit in there order guide that you can order you should have that in your book if not give them a call.1-800-777-7094 order # g-1451 good luck. let us know what you finde out.
Mike L. 05-19-2005, 10:43 PM I have not had personal experience with Amsoil but have heard that it is top notch. I was a dealer for a year but never sold anything because everyone I met was a dealer. I remember in the brochures that they had oil analisys kits available. Amsoil is a great company and I know they will answer your questions. My personal guess is, that if the Torque Drive (hope I got it right) fluid is an exact copy of Castrol TranSynd, the discoloration might be normal. TranSynd does discolor in my experience from what I have seen in my shop and it did not harm anything. Hope I helped.
mike
BigWill_21 05-19-2005, 10:51 PM Well that information is appreciated... I was unaware that discoloration could be normal... I will be in contat with the folks at AMSOIL about this and post my findings!!!
Also will look into one of the Analysis Kits, it can't hurt...

I have always used

Call them and they will send you sample kit!! I haven't sample any dmax oil but used them for my old 6.0 knocker!!
later
use the oil analysis bottle with prepaid postage from Amsoil. it goes to a place called Oil Analyzers Inc. (affiliated with Amsoil i believe). the bottle is stock #G-1451
YZF1R 05-25-2005, 10:16 AM I have Transynd in mine, about 25,000 mi. on it. Mine turned too. Went to the Allison dealership (Penn Diesel) and talked to the manager. He also stated the Transynd will do this and not to worry. Time to change the spin on, but other than that I should be OK. I was planning on changing out the fluid at 50,000 mi. or so. I also do no towing or have any power mods. If the Amsoil is similar as stated, you may have nothing to worry about. If it smells burnt, that's something else, and it may of benefit to have it tested as stated above.

I run the TorqueDrive, which is the AMSOIL replacement for Transynd...
I will be ordering the kit and sending it off ASAP, it smells slightly burnt to me, but my bud seems to think the fluid isn't burnt and that it is CLutch Material from Breakin after going to the Amsoil and the Power Mods....
Either way its a good idea to check!!

BigWill_21 05-25-2005, 10:36 AM BTW: Will they test the Tranny fluid and Motor oil... OR do I need 2 kits???
THanks
WILL
dmaxalliTech 05-25-2005, 11:48 PM Torque Drive fluid seems to be very very close to what Transynd is. I wouldnt worry too much on the color unless it smells burnt.
An analysis will help determine future actions required
Dmax Tim 05-26-2005, 06:25 AM BTW: Will they test the Tranny fluid and Motor oil... OR do I need 2 kits???
