I have a question. It is my understanding that the AFE intake system does nothing to enhance the performance of the Duramax. If this is the case, then why install one?

What you'll find with a different airbox setup whether it's an open cell style AFE or alterted stock airbox and drop in is a quicker spool up with added air supply ....

No HP gain but better throttle responce if you will ...

I agree 100% with Mackin, noticed a BIG change in my throttle responce. We need air, with the bigger diameter duct and smoother flow of air, the engine now gets its air quite nicely. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

Hi Nowake, how do you like the Westin oval steps? How is the hardware and instalation?

Also how much and where did you get youe intake system?

Are you getting better mileage?

The Westin steps are great and the mounting and the hardware kit was very simple and straight foward. They were worth the wait(back ordered since Oct).

My AFE Stage II was a Christmas gift...If I remember correctly they sell in the mid to upper $200s. It was bough through a good friend who owns a NAPA in MO were we live.

Any good auto parts store should be able to get them for you in day. I think AFE is headquartered in SO.CA.

Here's a link to some pics of my install.
I wanted more of a "low key" look so I
painted the intake tube black....
I also used an Outerwears sock, it's ALOT
cheaper than those from AFE. I ordered it
direct from Outwears for around ~$26 IIRC...

Here's the Link (http://207.53.239.181/~terry/truck/AFE-Intake/)

That is funny I wanted to paint mine black also...my wife talked me out of it.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif It looks good...still kinda keeping the OME look. I am going to make a custom sticker for it. When I put in on I'll post it. That sock will be on it anyday now. I think it is a must have when bugs are a flying.

Is there any claims of better dirt filtration? Is this a paper, foam or gauze? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gifSPICER

Not a bad price from a local (to you) vendor.

I paid $265 total to my door. Bought it
from an "online" vender - don't remember
who right now...
