: my new truck
steiner43511 05-18-2005, 10:07 PM well i bought a new truck. any takers on what i paid for it. its a 94 2500 4x4 automatic, 127,000 miles. they couldnt get it runnin. i drove it home from columbus ohio, dumped some schaeffers soyshield in the filter bowl, plugged my spare pmd in, and shot a little either in it and she took right off. they said it had been sittin in a barn for 3 years. i believe them. birds nest under the turbo power cover and walnuts under the hood. i think im gonna be droppin the pan though. she has a pretty loud knock. sounds like a rod or bearing.
its not lettin me attach pictures right now but ill get them on soon.
i was impressed how well my 97 pulled her. OD the whole way. pyro never got to the yellow.
DeereDiesel 05-18-2005, 10:42 PM Ill take bets on what ya paid for it):h U gotta secret project in the works here stein?

steiner43511 05-18-2005, 10:51 PM well my parents aint too happy on the whole ordeal. we gonna drink some beer this weekend?
knkreb 05-19-2005, 07:16 AM Gee, you shoulda started a poll,
I'm game, waddya pay fer it? Does it start with an F and end in ree?
I just did some research on mine last night. My rig is worth about twice to three times what I paid for it last year.:)
SnowDrift 05-19-2005, 07:43 AM I'll start. I'd guess $3000.
I bet less than $2500. Birds nests!
Don't use much ether, understand its not good for these engines . .
steiner43511 05-19-2005, 08:44 AM yeah it didnt take much ether. after the oil pressure got built up, the crankin speed got up there and it fired right off.
steiner43511 05-19-2005, 08:47 AM your gettin closer.
CanadianRigger 05-19-2005, 10:37 AM I've got a wonderful 95 with a very bad miss and no knock in it. $2000 US (is that close?) and its yours.
steiner43511 05-19-2005, 01:46 PM Keep Goin
94duallyman 05-19-2005, 02:10 PM $1200 us dollars
quantum mechanic 05-19-2005, 02:12 PM Three years in a barn, no start.......$900
steiner43511 05-19-2005, 02:18 PM WELL GIVe the prize to qm for comin within 100 bucks. $800 bucks. i drove it around to day. tranny works and the 4 wheel drive work. gettin ready to drop oil pan.
quantum mechanic 05-19-2005, 02:37 PM That's not bad! The knock could be alot of things but starting with the oil pan is a good idea.
SnowDrift 05-19-2005, 03:00 PM That's great, steiner!

w_huisman 05-20-2005, 12:32 PM I'm thinking about painting my grill to match, like yours. But I just haven't got up the balls to try it yet. I already have the rattlecan matching paint sitting in the basement, but I'm just not sure how to deal with chrome junk on the grill that's cracking and peeling.
I have the stock wheels on my truck that use the GM center caps with plastic lug nuts and chrome beauty rings. Last weekend I pulled that junk off, painted the rims flat black (they were the oem gray color) and put the center caps and rings back on. It turned out awesome. Looks great! I should post a pic. Anyways, that's what gives me the confidence to try painting the grill, but white would be a lot harder to paint nicely, and I have the chrome junk to deal with.
Helluva truck for the money. Congrats!
bowtie 05-20-2005, 12:53 PM Nice looking truck so why you selling it, can't never have too many trucks around
steiner43511 05-20-2005, 09:20 PM well, my parents are pissed about me usin up some of my savings on it. they wont ever let me spend any money. im 21 for Gods sake.
knkreb 05-20-2005, 09:27 PM You just need to tell them it was a very WISE investment. (well, tell them that AFTER you drop the oil pan.)
steiner43511 05-20-2005, 09:33 PM well i havent got to the pan yet cause i need a torch to get the crossover off and i aint got one at school. but i have started a list of stuff that needs fixed.
driverside mirror
new alternator
2 batteries
pmd
air cleaner was eatin through
serpentine belt
turbo is shot i think. it doesnt spin very freely.
rear main is leakin bad
exhaust leaks
cjk65 05-20-2005, 09:48 PM Is the rest of the body in the same shape as the front of it? if so I bet you can make some money on that rig even if you have to put a little money into it.
nvmtnlion 05-20-2005, 09:59 PM Nice project! Hope the heat dies down quickly!
quantum mechanic 05-20-2005, 10:09 PM I have a PMD I will send you to help out.
steiner43511 05-26-2005, 09:39 AM friday night were pullin the motor. im haulin it to my buddies shop. if it aint that bad i might keep this 94 and fix what is needed and sell my 97 just so i am out of debt.
steiner43511 05-28-2005, 02:56 PM well we got it out, but it took till 2 in the morning. and that motor is shot. i will hopefully have the pictures on next week. we got it out and dropped the pan and there was chunks of bearing in the pan. i think the crank isnt gonna be repairable. the front two rod journals arent flat and smooth. there was about a 1/4 of an inch difference between them. the bearings were all junk, lots of grit in them. i think he ran it out of oil and it probably led a hard life of being run hard without lettin it warm up. i havent looked at the block yet, but it dont look too bad i am hopin i can salvage that. the timing chain was sloppy as hell. i think im just gonna sell a bunch of the engine parts on ebay like the alternator for a core and the turbo as a core. it will be nice to have a set of injectors to rebuild and the pump works. the vaccum pump still works if anybody is interested. the radiator was shot too, when i drained it it definately had a green and red mixture.
my roommate is gonna buy the truck, but i get the motor.
