: Finger stick and EGR blocker?
05dirty 05-18-2005, 09:29 PM New and still learning can someone enlighten me on what the Finger stick and EGR blocker is what it does? Where can you get it? Is it a must? Getting ready for some big mods and I want to do it right. Thanks for gettin me up to date. Thanks
mahalkita 05-18-2005, 10:05 PM EGR Blocker Plate = Plate to block off EGR so that the soot from the Exhaust will NOT be recirculated back to the Intake. Since there is a certain airflow through the EGR measured at each engine startup cycle (to check the EGR function) there will be an error reported if the EGR is blocked. In certain states like California ....this error will trigger the SES function and cause problems.
Fingers one of the members created a small PCB to simulate airlow to trick the monitoring circuit --> no SES problems!
05dirty 05-18-2005, 10:21 PM So how do you do this. The plate where do you get this? PCB? If I wanted to do this how would i do it what do i need, i know i am an amature and am not tryin to insult anyones intellgence i just want to konw how to do this. appreciate it. thanks

Try a search with those keywords and you will know more than you ever wanted to about EGR. Grab a drink / dinner and sit down in front of the PC and you will be amazed at what you can find on this place.
Welcome and enjoy your LLY ;) !

nosliw 05-24-2005, 01:45 AM just ordered egr plate and fingerstick:cool:
my dmax should last forever now, right? :exactly:
jim_bo 05-24-2005, 11:08 AM So, is the egr plate really necessary or is it just a gimmick to give to someone who desperately looking for simple mods to do to thier LLY?
Chisuzu 05-24-2005, 01:21 PM Its not "necessary". EGR=Exhaust Gas Recirculation. Its taking exhaust gas and reintroducing it into your intake. Basically its not doing anything but pushing soot into your engine.
Personally, I noticed that it seemed to give me a little more power when I blocked it. It wasn't significant, but I noticed a difference. If you think about it, by blocking it, you'll be getting more air into the engine, not air mixed with exhaust gas, thus better combustion.
Its up to you to decide whether or not you think its "necessary".
h8nopi 05-24-2005, 11:19 PM I installed mine and then took it out maby 100 miles afterwards there was already a little soot on the outside of the block off plate. Mine went back in and will stay there after seeing what just that short of a trip would put on it.
riverchucky 05-25-2005, 09:15 AM Just ordered my "Finger Stick"! If I install the Stick before I install my Cat Back system, will codes be thrown? Or will there be any ill-effect?
Running a Kalifornia emissions Duramax.

Install the CAT back first. If it doesn't throw codes, don't install the stick. No need. You can always return the Stick for a full refund.
I don't know of any issues with installing the stick ahead of time though.
riverchucky 05-25-2005, 02:11 PM Had the cat back on, got SES & codes thrown. Removed the cat back, sold it & re-installed stock exhaust system before learning 'bout the Finger Stick. Would like to go 'round two' hopefully with success! !
That's why I was wondering if installing the stick first would cause codes or SES light because I won't be able to re-install the exhaust system right away. Thank you Fingers!
TheMonkey 05-25-2005, 08:26 PM seems to me that a blocker plate becomes more and more important with performance chips?? with each level that i increase edge / juice.... there is more soot spewing....
so, if i had egr; maybe i wouldn't feel the 'need' with a stock setup, but as soon as it got turned up a bit.... i would feel the 'need'.
riverchucky 05-25-2005, 09:06 PM Hmmm, interesting point. Perhaps blocker plate is next with juice. After catching grief from the dealer about my aftermarket add-ons (none of which are performance items by the way), I've decided to say "heck with 'em" and start installing performance upgrades and taking the rig to a private shop for maintenance.
riverchucky 06-07-2005, 03:35 PM Finger stick & Magnaflow system works great! Improved mpg & power. EGR blocker plate ordered.
It's pretty funny that we intend to tinker with stock - but if there's a way to enhance performance & economy. . .why not!?
Kudo's to you guyz for all your R&D!
A few weeks ago when the dealer gave me grief for the installed aftermarket hardware, I told them "If you guys built the truck in a way that suited my needs, I wouldn't have to install any of this equipment."
nassdmax 06-07-2005, 07:31 PM Just remember that it is GM that builds the truck, not the dealer. I constantly have to bw reminded that the powerhungry dieselheads that we all have becomw are actually a minority. GM looks at volume percentage when optioning trucks.
Sorry for the hijack.
riverchucky 06-07-2005, 08:03 PM Agreed. It's just to bad the dealers service dept. didn't like the idea of me putting a campershell, lumber rack, mud guards and step assist bars on the the truck. Wait, who's truck is it anyways? I have no problem with accepting liability for the aftermarket products I install. Kinda off subject here, but why not rant a little?!
