What are our options on rear gears? Is 3.73 the smallest, or is there 3.42/3.23?

3.73 is the factory option, however I do believe aftermarket you can get a 3.55 or something along those lines. However I couldn't tell you where to find it.

My 35" tires gear it down to something like 3.42-ish. I lost 1.5 mpg in my daily driving. I only get about 15-16 under 55mph(city and backroads) and 16-17 over 55mph (Highway). I see NO reason to go down in regards to gearing, unless you're after a gutless turd! It's been said many times before, GM has selected the best overall gearing for the Dmax.

Goal is top speed. Want 140MPH+, preferably 150mph. Gearing will be required. Seriously.

I agree, with that kinda speed......Where would you go that fast?

I too have 35's. Buck, do you think that putting 4:10's in would bring us back up? I heard that you really dont need to unless you went 37's and higher.

Although it is true you may need some different gearing, the lower (numerically) you go the more horsepower you will need to move that much weight. Not to mention the fact that a 2500 has the aerodynamics of a brick. You might be able to find 3.42s but you're gonna need mods for more RPMs for the motor.

Bodysurfer, using the calculators on 4lo.com I get a corrected ratio of 3.30:1 with H2's. If you move to 4.10's that brings the 3.30 to 3.63. Pretty close to stock. If I towed heavier than my enclosed sled trailer or lived in the mountians I'd think about it. The plus for me is it makes granny low usable and extends 5th gear well past 70 mph. When I do down shift I can pull a 6% grade loaded no problem.
