I know this subject has been beat to death, but I just purchased a new 3500 crew cab dually and I want to upgrade to a 235 85 r16 all terrain tire.
I have been told the back tires will rub when loading the truck down.
I pull horse trailers and cattle trailers 90% of the time.
open for suggestions.
I run the 235's you mention. (All season BFG Commercial T/A) They had less than 1/2" space between the tires unloaded and would touch together with my 7400 # tag trailer w/80psi in them.
I purchased aftermarket ION wheels from Jegs and they gave me another 1/2" of spacing that was, IMO, necessary. The Ion wheels have a high price tag and "less than perfect" chrome plating but fit my (lazy) needs. they also offer an aluminum polished wheel for around $175 I think? I kept the OEM steel inner rim. Another thing with these wheels, is you have to mount the front tires by hand because of the wheel/spoke design. My tire store also said the front wheels need to be substituted for his allignment machine? Just giving this info in case you go this route.
I have been to races and noticed guys running with dually tires smashed together pulling 9-12k lb trailers and they said no problems???? YET!
Other guys have ran spacers without issues as well with even larger tires.
Talk to tire specialists or maybe someone on the towing thread on this site can help more?

i just got my truck around two moths ago and it has 265s. i guess there are spacers but they don't touch (havent really weighted it down though)

Either I have really FAT 235's or you have SKINNY 265's?? A truck I saw that had all terrain 265's the tires were always hitting all the way around the tire?? He said he wasnt having any problems though.
