I have an 05 and when i try to accelerate it feels like its missing really bad and blows out smoke but its more whitish gray than black. Then after letting it sit it wouldnt start. I thought it was the problem with the injector wiring harness so i did the ice pick fix and it started back up but the miss and smoke is still there. But if I baby it up to speed the problem seems to go away not full power but its not knocking and missing. Im still leaning toward the injector harness but its not in limp mode and the cel is not on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

what about the fuel filter it is over thought of sometimes. boost tubes tight mass air sensor might be dirty. very well could be wire harness rub.

I had the same issue and same symptoms and it was my FPRV..but I'm hesitant to say it here with little information.
I'd say to have the EGR checked, do the bottle test for the FPRV, and have the rail pressure checked at the dealer. Any one of those could cause these symptoms.

Thanks for all your help the fuel filter was done only 1500-2000 miles ago. I already checked the harness where it goes over the alternator and its fine I put a piece of rubber hose there last year. What are the boost tubes and how do i check them. What is the bottle test im searchin now but i cant find it.

On a trip to WA this yr, [From TX], I had a similar thing happen in UT..... I eventually could get it going pretty fast [80+ on the flats or downhill] but it was on 4 cyl. according to the tech. in UT.
What happened was some continually bumpy roads eventually broke an injector connector off from the wire harness. The injector was fine but it just needed a new connector. It looked like it was pretty tough to replace [ergonomically] based on the tech's WHOLE BODY in my engine bay LOL. He had to use his whole arm length to get to it.
I had them change the fuel filter there for good measure even though it seemed clean.
Once fixed, I was GTG.

Greetings all:
I'm fixing to sell this glorious 2005 vehicle with the low miles of 46750 Mile's next week and Bam! it is doing exactly what is being described here in this post.
I was on the freeway doing some accelerating blowing out the dark smoke stuff and then the lack of acceleration starts ; I noticed no smoking after the problem started. My experience was very similar to Zuluman experience less the not starting issue and the smoking but definitely the slow acceleration on the hills and gradual acceleration on the flats.
Thanks for any coments about this problem.
