I must admit - I don't use 4x4 Lo very often, but this past weekend I was using the D-Max to pull out a couple of big tree stumps on my hunting land. It was getting quite a workout.

I noticed that when pulling hard (wheels spinning but going nowhere) I would get a grinding noise sound when going from Drive to Park (in 4 LO)if I didn't let the truck sit in Neutral for about 15 seconds after the pull before going into Park. Almost sounded like you had to let the gearing slow down and sync with the motor before putting it into park.

Anybody else ever have this happen??

It is the nature of the beast. This is normal and mentioned in your owners manual. It is a function of the mass of the drivetrain.

How big were the stumps and how long did it take you?

I had alot of 6" pine stumps - dug around them and they pulled right out easy.

Had 4 big maple (I think) stumps that were about five 6" re-growth trees that sprouted from one original larger stumps that were logged 25 years ago. Those were alot of work! Two came about after about 10 minutes of digging (all sand) but the other two took me about 3 hours. They were pretty stubborn and ended up with about 3' diameter stumps once I got them out.

FWIW - I won't do it again. Back breaking work - hard on the truck. The rest are gonna get hit with a dozer :) Brother said I couldn't pull them with the truck - had to prove a point ;)
