Anyone ever had a sour smell come out of there a/c when you first turn it on?
If so how did you get rid of it?:( i know this has noting to do with the engine but im at a loss here.

Its probably because you run your a/c on re-circulate all the time. Ive had same problem. Moisture builds up in there and then starts to smell like wet fart after chilli cook off! You either rneed to run it on auto, or turn the re-circ off about a mile before you get home/work/where ever..

You'll have to get it deodorized at the dealer. If its under warranty, they'll most likely do it for free the 1st time. Or just buy the can and do it yourself.

I finally started running my a/c on auto now. I have not had the smell come back.

Ask for the 'afterblow' kit to be installed. It runs the blower like every 10 min for a little bit when the truck is off to dry off the evaporator and stop the germs that stink from growing. Warranty will pay for this and it works really well. Forget the chemical deodorant as it only masks the problem.

I usually try and remember to turn off the ac about 5 mins from home and just leave the fan running.

Your truck should have an afterblow option the dealer can turn on..this dries the core out after you stop, keeping mildew down and eliminating the pissy diaper smell.

some have to have a kit installed, but most newer gm vehicles just need it enabled

Afterblow Enabling
The afterblow mode can be enabled using the scan tool. The afterblow mode allows the blower motor to operate after the engine has been turned off. This operation of the blower motor dries the evaporator core, which reduces the amount of microbial growth which can create undesirable odors.

Use the following procedure in order to enable the afterblow mode:

•Connect the Scan Tool.
•Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
•Build the vehicle with the scan tool.
•Select HVAC Control Module
•Select Module Setup.
•Select Afterblow Option.
•Upon selecting the afterblow option a asterix will appear next to the word afterblow meaning the function is enabled.
•Select the save option in the lower left of the screen.
When afterblow has been enabled by the scan tool the blower motor will operate at 68 percent blower speed for 2 minutes 30 seconds to 4 minutes after the engine has been in Key OFF for 30 minutes.

The following conditions must be met for the HVAC module to operate the afterblow:

• The outside air temperature must be at least 21°C (70°F).

• The A/C compressor must have operated during the latest key cycle.

• The engine must be turned off for at least 30 minutes.

• The system voltage must be at least 12 volts.

Sounds like a PITA and I dont have a scan tool. Will the dealer do this free of charge?
