Goodmorning,

I think the tranny might have limped this morning. I was getting off the freeway and stopped at a light at the end of the ramp. I went to go when the light turned and I had no first or second gear. Also, SES light is on. This was the condition the rest of the way to work (about 1.5 more miles). Reverse still works, although it sounds pretty harsh going from reverse to drive. There are no mods whatsoever with the transmission or engine and there are 43,600 miles on the truck.

Does anyone have any idea what might have caused this? Also, how do I go about fixing it. Is there anyway to get the codes out of the truck without a diagnostic tool of some sort. Thanks for any help.

Doesn't sound like limp to me...
As I understand it, limp takes away the top gears, not the bottom 2.

Sounds like a visit to the $tealer is in your future...

Is your truck stock like your sig says? You could have limped it without power adders but it means something is wrong with the tranny. Limping the tranny can stick you in a gear like 3rd. Did the problem go away after you shut the engine down and restarted it? You need to scan the computer and see if you have any codes like the P0700 (take it to the dealer). The dealer can scan TCM codes and get which code caused the P0700 if present. If the CEL goes out the codes are still there.

Just went out to the truck at lunch. SES light is still on, but it seems to go into first properly. The truck is stock and I do not drive it very hard. I am going to go to the stealer this evening (if the truck gets me home) and have them pull the codes for me. Thanks for the replies thus far.

Post the codes after you get it scanned.

Just got back from the stealer. They told me it was a 700 fault code? They replaced the NSBU and said I should be all set. I hope so. No problems in the 6 miles home from the dealer.

I tried to get them to look at the slip yoke while I was there (due to clunk in the rear end), but they were not interested. I know there is a TSB out for that, calling for a nickel plated replacement, but the service folks said that the clunk is normal and that the truck is going to be loud. I disagree. It is really frustrating having to fight with the dealership when it comes to service.

If you had a P0700 code you must have had other codes stored in the TCM. I had the P0700 code too but I definately limped the tranny. Maybe a bad NSBU switch caused this I don't know. Anyone?
