got a call tonight from a buddy that just picked up his boss, i guess he was pulling a 14k trailer with his 600cummins when he came over a hill and let off then hit the pancake brake?? (not sure what that is) and had a severe knock, truck then died out, when they tried to start no go, needed either to start it the next day, and when started severe knock

he has been pulling this trailer for a while now, but the cummins had lots of perks done, 120 over injectors, upgraded turbo, large single programer, and maybe a bit more, last i was told they were pulling mods off to take in, looks to be blown motor, will keep you informed

always stories like this suck, on either make and model

Hate to say it, but this is what you get when you do a lot of mods, still work your truck to death, and still expect it to just run along with the reliability of a stock one.

I'll be surprised if the dealer does a new motor under warranty... depends on how well they remove the goodies off of it. Audi had a similar problem with the S4 a few years ago. People were buying chips that gave them an extra 100 or 150 hp out of the thing, blowing up the engines, and then taking the chips out for the stock ones and taking it in for a new motor under warranty. That's why Audi switched to a naturally aspirated V8 instead of a twin-turbo V6. Would hate to see an equivalent happen to the Cummins.

Bad deal for sure. Gotta agree with being wary of heavy mods with heavy loads.

naturally asperated diesel engines making any kind of hp over 100hp is never going to happen ever again. turbo's make the engine so much more efficent. more sophisticted tattle tale devices might come out though

Hate to say it, but, egt's were more than likely run too hot and the problem is probably a scuffed cylinder:( or two.
