My 07 classic has 23,200 miles on it. The rotors are all pitted and grooved and grind when nearly to a stop. Looked at them closer today and the pads are still over 50% but the brakes are just not working as they should. Pads are all contacting the rotors in varying smooth areas which is different wheel to wheel. Some have good rotor in the middle, others on the outside etc etc etc

A friend told me the rotors are a warranty item but not the pads.

Truck has above miles and will hit 36 monthes February of 2010.

True or not?

Thanks,
Mike

Being persistant with your dealer MAY yield results, but I doubt it. Some on here have had them Goodwilled.

The root cause is corrosion and production tolerances at the pad mounting region, combined with less than adequate grease on the slide bolts.

My 07 classic at 26k had all four rotors delaminated with splotchy surface and pads were fine. Truck started pulsing antilocks everytime I stopped. I've been doing all of the oil changes at the dealer and I think it would have been fairly obvious on the lift. The dealer said the service manager would make a call on it but I needed something to drive. Ceramic pads and rotors were $369 at carquest and I broke a wheel speed sensor which was $102. Took 2 of us all day and we had to hammer pads out of calipers. Followed heymccall's instructions on brakes and got all new pads freefloating with much better braking.
I'm taking it in for an oil change thursday so I'm gonna ask service manager what the deal is. I'd like to know what the dealer says on your warranty for rotors at 23k.

I get home from work about 12 noon today. Putting the wheels back on and heading to the dealer.

We'll see.

My truck is done! They called me at 1PM today after they had parts overnighted.

Yesterday the dealership inspected the rotors/pads and did some measuring. About ten minutes later the advisor came to me to tell me GM is covering all four rotors and the back pads but they will need to block sand the fronts. They also needed to order parts as the parts dept only had one rotor of each, front/rear.

Rotors were easy but the pads were a little tougher. Fronts were not worn enough or grooved enough. Left rear inside pad was gone, outer was about 90% due to lack of the caliper sliding. Right rear was about 50% gone on the inside with outer about 80%.

I asked if it made sense to put worn front pads on with all other parts new, the mechanic agreed with my "no it didn't."

I asked for them to price OEM front pads, I choked when they told me they discounted them down to $159.95:eek: I told them that was wild because ceramic pads (GM pads also ceramic) from the parts store that I had just purchased were only $36.99. They asked to have those and they installed them for me.

For today call me,
"Lucky" Mike

Wow, good deal! I had an appointment with the dealer but it was a week's wait. I needed something to drive and I didn't expect more than a percentage on the rotors. Cost me $500 but the brakes work much better now.
