So today I put in some amber DRL's on my 03 b/c I think they look so much better than the white ones. But then when I sat back and admired the new look I realized that I really didn't like the look of the two amber bulbs reflecting below my headlights giving that eggyok look. So I pulled out all four bulbs, taped off the connectors and the bottom 1/4 of the bulb and sprayed them with a silver high temp paint that is good to 800F. The result is that when you look at the headlights you don't get that amber glow (all you see is the silver), but when you put on the lights or when the DRL's are on there is the nice amber glow.

I kinda stole this idea from my days owning a bimmer b/c for the bimmers you can get silver bulbs that shine amber. Now I'm not sure if a person can get the same for these trucks, but has anyone else done this, or am I the first? It really does look awesome, and before I get the :nopics:
I can't get pics up until next week.

I think silverstars have a replacement that is silver that glows amber, but at $20 a pair -- too expen$ive. I like your idea!!!

So these are the Solaris Invisibulbs that I had on my bimmer.... and it looks like you can get the 3157's for the parking lights.... $25CDN a pair.
Now I'm trying to track down the 4157's for the DRL's

But your right... painting them is much cheaper.

Do they put out much light with the paint over the bulb? What kind of paint did you use?

I actually used an aluminum colored engine paint that is supposedly good to 800F. As far as how much light they put out.... I'd say its about 90% of what it was before painting them. The light still reflects off the inside part of the bezel and is very visible.

Awesome! I'll have to try this when a DRL goes out on me.
