Anyone taken off the large (4" roughly tall) side moulding? Are they glued on or snapped on? What did the paint look like under it and how did you get it to match back up?

Thanks

Glued........how long have they been on your truck? I waited for a very very hott day....just peeled them off by hand and used PB blaster decal remover to help get the tape and glue residue off. You can also take fishing line and run "cut" along the backside to help get it off. What color is your truck?

That's what I did with my truck too. It was only 3 months old though when I did it. Looks way cleaner in my opinion.

did it today, truck is stealth grey and almost 3 years old. Glad I done it, lots of dirt and grime behind the trim. Paint looks good no noticeable difference. I should have done this 2 years ago. Also debadged the tailgate looks awesome.

Its actually on a truck Im looking at, the truck is white, its an 05. The top of the moulding has a bit of yellow discoloring to it. Im not sure what its from, since my current truck is an 03, also white, and I have no discoloration

Think a white 05 would mismatch too much?

There's no way I'd take mine off around here! It would look better until all the door slams and runaway grocery carts hit it. People don't give a crap. I watched a lady the other day just slam the sh!t out of a car with her door. She got out and didn't even look until she noticed the other car owner was standing right there! Now that was funny to watch! That lady had a "oh sh!t" look on her face. I thought the other lady was going b!tch slap her.

Did it to both the 02' and the 09'. Heat em up slightly, get some fishing line to get it started, peel em off, roll off the excess 3M, use bug and tar remover to clean it up. On both trucks I replaced the side moding with the chrome GMC ones. Looks much better. Pics of the 02' in my sig, the 09' is still under construction......

Just uploaded pics into my garage of mine all done. I installed the GMC moldings on my Chevy recently after I got tired of no moldings at all.

I really scored on the GMC trim I put on the 09'. I found an unclaimed set from one of those clearance places on E-bay. $36.01 shipped. I have yet to see a chev. truck on the road with the GMC bright sides...

I removed it on a white 05 i had looked great I'll see if I still have some pics. The best way to remove the tape that is left once the trim is removed is to get a Strip Off wheel you can buy them at Oriellys thats where I got mine just put it on a drill and the best part it will not hurt your paint I've used it on 2 trucks and never had it damage the paint then just clean with soap and water maybe alittle pollish and your good to go.

I removed mine off both trucks. They both went easy, the '04 was little harder, but not much. I took it off with fishing line, then used a 3M eraser wheel to get the rest of the tape off. Finished it up with 3M adhesive remover.

Watch out for the shopping carts that fly when the wind blows after you take it off!!!!

Just did my white 05 early this summer and didn't have any color issues. I like it much better w/o the moulding. I just pulled it off real slow and all the tape stayed on the plastic, maybe i was just lucky!

I heard the fishing line works well and using a heat gun... but not too much to get the paint too hot. Also 3M has a adhesive removing wheel that goes in a die grinder or wheel. I think I am going to do mine the next chance I get. I photoshopped it removed to see what it would look like.

ive been thinking about doing this, mine seems to be getting faded on the top side a little

I think unless you're lifted, it looks best to leave it on the new body styles, otherwise it looks too bland since there are no other lines on the side of the truck

I would love to do this but im afraid it will be faded under them afterwards.

I've done it on the trucks 2 were white 1 black it being to most recent it's an 04 no fading at all just wax after you remove it and it looks great.
