OK, newbie here. I am interested in buying a new Predator tuner. I have read all of the posts that I can find on them. An observation of mine is that most of the EGT/boost problems being noted seem to be on the LLY tuner. I am towing a 7500# TT frequently through the mountains and just want a little bit more umph. This Ally in T/H seems to constantly want to downshift on a grade with seemingly light throttle imputs. It then seems stubborn at times to upshift back to 5th without backing out of the throttle. Will the 40 HP tune give me EGT problems with this trailer? Will it lug longer on some of these hills and reduce the downshifts? I am assuming that with the LB7's utilizing a waste gate, that there would be no low boost issues??? Thanks in advance.

You should have no problems with using the 40HP tune as this tune was designed for towing at the max rating for the Duramax. I use it and tow a 8,500 TT to N.M through the mountains and have never had a proformance issue.

I run the juice on level 1 but have it's tail tied to 15k trailer, does fine and I still have the stock exhaust.
I got a predator coming so we'll see how the 2 do.

I have the Predator for an 2002 Duramax, and in my opinion it is only good for reading and resetting. Even on the 40 hp setting, you will see at least 200* higher temps while towing 8,000#
There are so many much better programmers/tuners to choose from. If I had no mods, and were looking for a little more for towing. I would either get the Banks, Stealth, or Juice/Atittude combo.
Regardless what you get, to get to most out of it while keeping the exhaust temps as low as possible, you need an aftermarket exhaust, and don't forget guages. With the Edge/Atittude you won't need guages.
All three that I mentioned has much more power down low where you need it for towing. The Predator runs hotter then any of the others, and has less power down low.

we have both a Hot Juice and Predator for our LB7 and have received the best results from the Juice ... we do use the Predator to monitor engine functions

Thanks for all of your good feedback. I decided to go ahead and purchase the Predator and tune the 40. I know that I am going to need to re-calc for bigger tires next year. I also wanted to have the live monitoring ability along with the ability to read and clear DTC's. My boost gauge is still on B/O so I am not going to tow until I get that along with the pyro installed. I have to say, once the Ally caught up with the 40, this truck runs sooo much better. No more turbo lag to speak of as the R's build very quickly. It feels like it has much more power especially when hitting it from a roll. I can't even imagine the hotter tunes. If this is too hot to tow with, I guess that I will have to put the stock tune back in and start saving for my Edge. At least I will have it for other functions.
