: Need some advice
k5hauler 08-29-2009, 07:32 PM I am looking at buying an 06 CC drw with an LBZ. It has about 37k miles on it and the previous owner traded it in for a F*rd 3/4 ton. Based on what I saw, it has the LT3 interior. Overall the truck looks to be in fairly good condition, and only 2 dealer service records on the carfax. They're asking ~32K for it.
Dealer doesn't believe there was a program installed, but there not a GM dealer. Appears to have had a tool box on it and pulled a gooesneck at some point. Main concern is that the PO may have overloaded the truck while hauling.
For my purposes the truck would basically be a toy hauler and used for long distance trips. Thoughts?
OldSoldier 08-29-2009, 08:48 PM Price is a bit high.
I paid $35.6 for mine brand new in Aug 06...employee price. It's an LT3 with all the options except moon roof and 4wd. Don't know how you could tell if PO over loaded it.
DrededSS 08-29-2009, 09:19 PM I can guarantee my DRW was overloaded by the previous owner, but I bought it at 60k miles and it has been great ever since.
But that price is high.
2_wacko 08-29-2009, 09:38 PM Thats pretty high is it even a 4x4, and what's fairly good condition? I would not worry about it being overloaded.
dwrat 08-29-2009, 09:54 PM I just got the same truck with 11,000 miles and was able to beat the seller down to $28K because no one else wanted to pay more for it.
k5hauler 08-29-2009, 11:33 PM It's 4wd.
2-wacko: I'm going by the kbb definition of good/excellent. Some minor cosmetic things. PO backed into something, didn't damage the bed or bumper, but am able discern it's bent some.
k5hauler 08-30-2009, 12:13 AM The bump stops for the overloads. Are they riveted or bolted to the frame?

Bolted. Hate to say it but it is too high, seen them like that for about $20,000
stratman 08-30-2009, 03:01 AM Hey!
It is pretty hard to overload these trucks.
Other than the price maybe high I would not worry about the truck. Anything he did can be fixed. And if he went to a ford he will probably want his truck back soon:cool:
k5hauler 08-31-2009, 11:35 PM Can anyone direct me to a thread/sticky that pertains to negotiating new/used vehicles? I thought there was one somewhere in the forum, but can't locate it.
dwrat 09-01-2009, 12:18 AM In this market if you can't negotiate on your own nothing can help you.
Make them a fair offer and if they say no just walk, a better deal will come along in time.
djdave33 09-02-2009, 07:20 AM 4WD is a big option.. make sure it has that..
If you want it, I'd offer @ 27k. Don't think I'd pay any more 28k for that truck.
I bought my 07 LT about 6 months ago with 13K miles on it for $29.5K.
If the PO stepped down to a 3/4 ton truck, maybe he thought he had too much truck for what he was towing. I wouldn't worry too much about overloading it. Take a look at the overload perches and see if the rubber stops are worn.

Depends where you live.
I'm on truck number seven, never had 4wd, never needed 4wd, never had a use for 4wd. It is a high dollar option, $3,500 when I got my truck, plus it's heavy, adds maintenance expense, reduces mpg, and reduces towing and cargo capacity. Now having said that, if you live in snow country or do lots of off roading, have at it...they don't apply to me so I have no need for it.

Im on truck number 15.. the first one was a 2wd..and the only one.
What you said is true about mileage, maintainance, .. but if you only "NEED" it one time.. then thats another story.. I have gotten stuck on wet grass in 2WD.. and it ADDS much more value when you sell or trade.

If you only needed it once in 15 trucks, that's not a good return on the money you spent to buy it. I believe I'd take my chances and stick with 2wd.:D
jeepj10jim 09-02-2009, 08:46 PM Well I live in So Cal and I have 4wd. I would say 80% of my driving is on highway and 20% or less on dirt roads (search/rescue). Never hard core offroad (I have an old Jeep J truck for that). I have had 4wd on all trucks/suburbans that I have owned. I travel all over So Cal and after the 94 earthquake the only way to get to some customers was with 4wd. Also my wife wants me to always be able to get back home in the event of an emergency. I know all the fire roads, goat trails, etc. so even if I had to beat the truck up I can always get back home. Some of those roads (esp when muddy) no way in 2wd. Get 4wd and then you will never need it, buy 2wd and need 4wd it's to late. The additional cost is not that big when you consider what the down side is. Just my $.02 worth.

No I meant I only had one truck that was a 2WD and it was the first truck I had and the last 2WD .. I got stuck everywhere with that truck.. wet grass, snow, mud.. and for the little extra the 4X4 costs to me its well worth it.
ChuckZilla 09-03-2009, 01:30 AM Don't forget that the LBZ is the most powerful DMAX without a DPF, as well as the only DMAX with a 6 speed and NO DPF. If you can talk him down great, but seriously consider the rest of the market against what I consider to be possibly the best truck ever built by GM.

My point was that I don't "need" a 4wd truck. I started driving my first truck in 1972, and have never been stuck, therefore I have no use for 4wd.
Agree 4wd will increase the trade in value...BUT not as much as you paid for it initially, not to mention all the other associated costs that go with it.
djdave33 09-04-2009, 03:26 PM I just sold my 2005 dually 4x4 to a local dealer for 28k.. Mine was really clean both inside and out. had 28168 miles on it.
Dont dicker to long on a truck.. the diesel 4x4's are really selling high right now. The say it is because they are not many to no 2009's left and the 2010' wont be out untill after the first of the year because of the new emmisions.

I was just getting ready to say the same thing.. Lost one truck because of it!!! I did a search (wanted white one) and I could only find 3 or 4 within 300 miles when I bought mine and two of them where gone the next day. I paid 30 for mine and I thought it was a good deal considering what I research. Of course private seller was a little lower but I wanted to trade my 2500 in.
