: Water In Fuel Warning

Over this past weekend the DIC on my truck displayed the "WIF" warning. I was 700 miles from my scheduled filter changes; I change the oil, oil filter, spin on Ally filter and fuel filter every 5000 miles. No water came out of the fuel filter so I went ahead and changed everything on Sunday morning. Attached is a pix of the filter and to me it looks like it's doing the job....very dirty.

Since the change the WIF warning does not appear. My question to you fellas that may have run into this is this; Will a dirty fuel filter trip the WIF warning although the presence of water is not apparent in the fuel???

The WIF is a float setup, water is collected in the bottom of filter and it triggers the warning light. Dirt in the filter element will not effect it.....
By the looks of that filter I would try a new fuel stop, that thing looks pretty dirty for only 5000 miles....

That filter looks like it had 15K plus miles on it. Do you get your fuel at the same place? If so do they have a lot of diesel traffic?

lakingslayer,

90% of my fuel purchases are from the same Mobil/Exxon station near where I live. I selected that station for two reasons; first, it does get a high volume of truck traffic. This station sits on one of Jersey's busiest state highways and there's also a quarry in the next town and a lot of the tandems fill up there. Secondly, their prices are the lowest in my parts. Get what ya pay for I guess!

I'm going to change to another station for the next 5000 miles and see what difference that makes.
