I will not comment too much as it would be mis-construed as selling Amsoil. I will offer this for your reading pleasure. I will say there are other synthetics out there that are cheaper and perform better in lab tests.

Gear oil study that RP & Lucas failed one of the tests. Please keep an open mind as the tests were performed by an independent lab even though the study was paid for by Amsoil.

I've never used Royal Purple mainly because I've read too many posts that have said that Royal Purple uses sub par synthetics, or that their synthetics are sub par. Also that a majority of the people use Royal Purple because of it's high price they tend to think they're getting a better product.

well said fred. I think you just changed the oil I will be ussing next oil change. Just put the amsoil in the tranny and might as well switch to the same in the engine with all the firsthand knowledge.

Since you asked...RP is junk, at least their so called "industrial" lubricants are.

I have seen it turn to sludge and cause many premature gearbox failures. We stopped using RP and switched to Mobil...no more issues.

Their "synfilm GT" which is supposedly recommended for use in turbines - turned to sludge in our turbine causing extended downtime. We had to flush the system to get the royal purple sludge out and then put in Mobil synthetic. No issues so far.

The best site is go to BITOG (Bobistheoilguy), there are a lot of oil analysis in their oil analysis section, divided into diesel and gasser engine. You can search for RP oil analysis and see their results there. You judged it yourself.

Buy oil from a company that uses purple dye as a marketing gimmick?

No way...........

Had heard alot of good things about it before. But as time goes by I'm hearing more and more bad things , and always changed oil earlier than really would be necessary. Had wondered at first if I was burning oil or if the oil was just too thin or something. Have now come to a decision and will no longer be supporting them.
I believe the oil is good to start but seems to have the longevity of any bottom of the line regular heavy duty oil.

I'll be real general here, because there are engine, tranny, differential fluids, greases, etc that you could be inquiring about. You said "products" as a plural, so I assume you're not just talking engine oil.

Most of the ultra $$$, high-end group IV and V products (RL, RP, Torco, etc) rarely (if ever) have the performance to match their price point ...

I have never, ever seen a UOA in all the years I've geeked over them, that would support a conclusion that you get 4x less wear for the 4x the $$$ you spend. In fact, it is not unheard of to experience as good, or better, wear protection with just simple quality dino fluids changed on a routine basis.

There are some great quality, main-stream, PAO products (Amsoil, Mobil 1, etc) that perform admirably when used in extended OCIs. But often their wear protection isn't always better; it just lasts longer.

That would be the synopsis of my opinion.

To keep it simple, I will not be using ang RP products, due to some negative tests. As said previously, too many proven oils out there to try something new...
