I ran across a good write up on here a while back on ball joint replacements. Anyone got it saved by any chance? Im going to tackle upper and lowers tomorrow on my G/F's 04.5 4x4. I remember reading somewhere you had to take the whole lower a arm off the truck and have it pressed out right?? Can I rent a ball joint press from autozone and use it for uppers?

Im not sure if you HAVE to take the lower off, but I would. And yes, you can rent a press from autozone or kragen or where ever.

Knocked uppers and loweres on both sides out in about 3.5 hours this weekend.. I didn't remove the lower a arm either.. It was easy to do with it on the truck.. The Upper Ball joints were SHOTTTTTTTT!!!! Lowers were still decent but did them anyways..

Did you need to remove the upper A arm ? Or could you replace ball joint while on truck?

I replaced it while it was on the truck. Theres enough room.. I rented the press from Advanced auto parts.. I did uppers and lowers with both A arms on the truck.
