While searching through the archives I came across a thread that said you could buy the camper/5th wheel wiring harness that comes as an option on some trucks. I believe it's (UY2)? I spoke with the local parts manager and he hadn't ever had a request for it and didn't really know what it was:confused: So, anybody that knows how to get ahold of one of these....spill the beans. The closest thing my dealer could find was $105:eek: In this thread that I found, dmaxallitech said they are $55 :wtf1:

Someone help!

Max, that link is not working:confused: I think that the part number is 15072794 and www.gmpartsdirect.com has is for around $55. S/H is also $12. I just talked with the local dealer and he said wholesale cost is $78 so I think I'll just get it from there unless it's significantly cheaper through gmdieseltech.

BTW can anyone confirm that this part number will work and that it's truly plug-n-play?

Thanks for the linky! It turns out that my dealer will sell it to me for the same price, so I'll be loyal and give them some business...they treat me pretty good even though I have to find out tech info here:lol:

at the RV dealership where I work parttime in sales, we seldom use these wiring kits ... most 5ers come with a long enough cord to drape it over the tailgate and pulg it into the OEM femal receptical located next to the receiver ... a bungy cord hooked to the 5er hitch can be used to keep sufficient tention on it where it can't get caught in anything

Ugly, and it's at risk. :badidea:

There's pretty much no chance in hell that I'm going to drape my cord over the back of the bed and have to worry about it getting hooked on the corner of the bed or scratching the paint for that matter. In the bed is where it should be and that's where it's going.

.....but thanks for your opinion!

Saw the plug but didn't see any wiring pics:confused: Am I missing something or is the one pic of the plug the only one you've got?

:exactly:

did you have to add any wire to the setup prior to the plug, was there anything in the taped up bundle that would enable attaching to a plug or is it just capped wires? I have been looking at that gob of wires but didnt know what to do with it if i got it down. it seems to have plastic wire loom clips built in, where do they go, is there a speacial route you should use for the wires? i don't want to have to reinvent the wheel here.

My truck came with the camper/5th wheel wiring harness. I unwound the coil and brought it forward of the wheel well, into the void between outside/inside bed sheet metal, more than enough length. The ends of the wires were sealed with a plastic cap, I removed this cap.

I purchased a 7 pin receptacle form NAPA, and using a hole saw, (the one for wooden doors; saws thin sheet metal just fine.) placed my receptacle between inner wheel shape and the front of the box. Wired up the receptacle just like the receptacle by the receiver.

It's that simple.

Hope this helps.
