I searched and I assume it is the injectors but couldn't quite find an exact match to my issue so thought I would post it. I was driving about 35mph and changed lanes wile giving the truck a little throttle, she then lost all power and started billowing white smoke. The oil pressur dropped to 0 and it started knocking hard. I shut it off and coasted off of the road. No loss of oil and now won't start, also ran the obd2 and no codes.
Its an 03 with 250k miles

My brother in law had a similiar issue a few years ago. The dealer ended up tightening some blow off valve around the turbo. I think the ECU got upgraded too. I think he was loosing boost some how. Last week he had the power loss without the white smoke and it was a dirty fuel and air filter. I leanerd that black smoke is more fule than air but I think white smoke is the opposite. Good luck. Sounds like no fuel or electrical connection too.

I assumed that the white smoke was a lack of fuel but the oil pressure is what baffled me... That's what made me think injectors

While attempting to start the truck it makes a loud knocking sound, not a rod knock though...and it still puffs large amounts of white smoke, I tried bleeding it and there us fuel I might try the fuel filter

It may have an injector stuck open. Which wont allow it to build rail pressure to start

Is there alot of fuel in the crank case.

How would I tell if there were fuel in the crank case, the dipstick? it seems to be just oil and no diesel smell. Can I flow test the injectors to see if one is stuck?

I think KevinL might be right about the open injector, extra fuel buildup in one cyl, extra loud combustion, low fuel press all seem connected. Not sure how to check pressure in the fuel rail though. That might be the thing to do or check for extra fuel in the oil.

I would try to get a press gauge carefully on the fuel rail somewhere and try to get it running. You might be able to buy one of those code readers that also gives real time data from the ECU to check fuel pressure then return it. Check the fuel section of this site.

the only way to check rail pressure is with a PPE xcelerator, Efi LIve or a tech 2

You could pull the glow plugs disconnect the Ficm and see if fuel is still coming out when you crank it.

If there is no or really low oil pressure you either have alot of diesel in the crankcase or the motor is trashed

This morning I went and checked the oil again, the level is about 1/4" higher up the dipstick than there was when I checked it last 1 week ago. It is not really runny and doesn't smell too much like fuel but you can tell that there is some in there. I also noticed last night when I tried starting it one last time before loading it onto the wrecker that the first couple of times the engine turns over it sounds normal and then after 3-4 revolutions is when the knocking sound starts. I guess I will have to get it towed to the dealer because I don't have access any of the scanners listed above and they can diagnose the issue...Sucks but its my only option I guess

Well it looks like I will have quite a bit of time on my hands this weekend and was wondering if I decided to tear down the truck and get to the injectors would I be able to physically see a stuck open injector? and is there a standard bench test procedure for the injectors that I can perfrom?

Man, I would be worried about the no oil pressure, I suffered a stuck open injector wich filled my crank case all the way up till it started leaking out. Even with it full of diesel I still had oil pressure, not like I would normally have, but I still had some.

Well I will just have to cross that bridge when I get there, it only ran for maybe 1-2 sec. after the occurrence before I could shut her down and that's when I noticed "low" oil pressure the gauge didn't bottom out just dropped.
And will I be able to physically see a stuck open injector or are there bench tests I can do on them?

Oh, Sorry I was under the impression that the oil pressure dropped completly off. Well if it just dropped off then I would have to say it's your injectors.

Make sure u get a 5mm hex swivel socket from snap on. It will make your life easyer trust me the drivers side valve cover is so god damn tight. I got a part number for the tool if you want it.

I would love that part number! And what about bench tests?

I have started to remove all necessary items to remove my injectors and have them cleaned and tested, while in the process I was unbolting the bracket that hold the ECU onto the pass. side valve cover and when I busted the bolts loose I got a high pressure of fuel...You could clearly see fuel spraying out and hear the pressure being released. I then started loosen the upper valve cover bolts and I also got high pressure fuel there, I am assuming that if one of the injectors on that side had cracked it is possible that it was pressurizing the entire valve cover..right?
