: Heated Seats
SmokeyMax 12-26-2003, 08:38 AM Anyone notice that if you get out of the truck, turn on the driver side heated seat-then walk around and turn on the passengers seat- come back 5 minutes later and both are off? This has happened to me 3 or 4 times. Any ideas?
Thanks,
SmokeyMax
MacGordon 12-26-2003, 11:37 AM That sounds wild. Every so often, I will turn my seat heaters on, then I get to my destination and I turn off the truck. I come back, start the truck again, and the seat heater is still on the same setting.
This has only happened a few times to me, but it freaks me out. Normally, it never comes back on. Sorry I couldn't help.
dieselman 12-26-2003, 11:50 AM The passenger seat is tied to the seat belt. I don't know why the driver's seat does this because I turn mine on while I'm scraping and it's still on.
Cruz_Man 12-26-2003, 02:13 PM Mine stays on too
dmaxscott 12-26-2003, 04:49 PM I have the gremlin also. Mine stays on once turned on seat belt or not and when you turn the truck down and back on they both are off.
I worry about a fire if they stay on too long without a body. Just paranoid from childhood fire I was in. But then again I think everything is a fire hazard.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gif
JEBar 12-28-2003, 07:19 AM mine says on until either switched off or the engine is shut down

BIGMoe 12-28-2003, 04:25 PM We have a 2003 Tahoe and 2003 2500HD both have heated seats, both say on until either switched off or the engine is shut down.
aketay 12-29-2003, 10:25 AM And I thought this was going to be the answer to my seat heater problem...my driver side heater turns itself on and off. The damn thing cycles and I can't control it or turn it off.
BIGMoe 12-29-2003, 05:54 PM At one time I thought I was having problems with the seat heater, but I figured out I was always bumping the switch when I was using the window buttons. My neighbor did have problems on his 03 suburban like aketay mentioned above and it was something to do with the drivers door module, it took him 3 tries for the tech to get it to screw up. I just learned that from him this morning.
rickles04 12-30-2003, 12:39 AM cold start .....push button for seat warmer, walk around and hit other warmer button,,,, come back in 5 minutes and the pile of junk has turned itself off.....pisses me off so bad....mine does it too....american made junk!!!!!!
nassdmax 12-31-2003, 11:04 AM The gremlin is in mine... I took it into the dealer and they replaced the power seat memory module due to an intermittent grounds fault they found. I thought that fixed the issue, but NOT.
My problem is when both me and my wife are driving, we put the heaters on after the truck is running, and later find that they have switched themselves off after getting warm and then cutting out. It seems like an overload on a circuit breaker, because after we discover this, we kick them back on, and they tend to stay on.
Can't figure it out, and I will mention it again to the dealer if the truck ever needs to go back in.
MN.
Gradyghost 12-31-2003, 04:05 PM You guys have heated seat in your TRUCK?
JEBar 12-31-2003, 05:35 PM You guys have heated seat in your TRUCK?
Sure do http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif .... infact, 2 of them, both front bucket seats http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif
Jim
Gradyghost 12-31-2003, 05:49 PM You don't actually use them do you?
srode 12-31-2003, 06:38 PM I sure would if I lived in PA http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Shocked.gif Even used them a couple times in TX so far http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif
tophog 12-31-2003, 10:46 PM I hear the heated seats have fart detectors ... let one rip and they'll shut off and turn on the ventilation system. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif Edited by: tophog
nassdmax 01-01-2004, 09:15 AM I think you will find that if you spend more than a couple of hours a day in your truck when it is below "perky nipple" temperature, they come in nice handy. They also make someone else happy that wouldn't be otherwise... I will agree with you that a truck should be a truck, and trucks shouldn't come with carpet or a radio, but that is for the working fools. I bought mine as the truck on one hand, the daily driver on the other. Shoot me for liking my comforts. $40k+ for our trucks is a heck of a lot more useful than the $40k+ bimmers that people buy.
Tophog, there are new seats in some vehicles that do have ventilation built in. They are both heating and cooling seats that use a fan through a micro-perf leather to either heat your cheeks or cool them off. Too bad it blows them gas expulsions right at you!!! They should take a hint from you and try to evacuate that outside!
cricket 01-01-2004, 11:21 AM Me and the wifes perky nipple days are in the past however the heated seats sure feel good while shes (The truck) heating up. Edited by: cricket
Gradyghost 01-01-2004, 11:57 AM hmmmm......you really got me thinking here....is there an aftermarket add on?
http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif
nassdmax 01-01-2004, 12:36 PM Cricket, Your truck must not have to heat up too much being in FL now. Sounds like you got away from the north! Congrats!
Anyway, this has not helped our failing cheek warmers. If anyone has a fix that has worked, I think some of us are all ears. Until then I'll just have to re-push the button when it clicks off.
PrairieGoat 01-02-2004, 12:30 AM Hmmm....talk about timing!!! I just noticed the exact same problem described above in the last couple of days.
It only occurs when both my wife and I have the heaters on 'full bore'. Sometime shortly after they get to the "toasty bun" level they both just kick off. I had just about decided that there was some type of thermal overload that kept them from getting too hot and shut the system off.
I guess I am going to have to check into it a little more and see if it is reproducible....
jeephauler 01-02-2004, 03:00 PM Smokeymax, my seats act like yours as well. Function flawlessly when driving. Always off after a restart (as they should be IMHO). BUT, when trying to warm the wife's seat up on a cold morning, both will be shut off when i return. Go figure.
By the way, warm butt feels good on a really cold morning:)
Mine work just fine....on cold mornings with the wife riding shotgun I activate MY seat, walk around and hit HERS. No probs.
Joe Pool 01-14-2004, 03:52 AM Gradyghost,

Oldman 02-04-2004, 11:27 AM Thanks for the link Joe. My 01 does not have the heated seats. The wife's 03 4-Runner does. I LIKE them!!
HD-Nate 02-04-2004, 12:27 PM cold start .....push button for seat warmer, walk around and hit other warmer button,,,, come back in 5 minutes and the pile of junk has turned itself off.....pisses me off so bad....mine does it too....american made junk!!!!!!
WTF???
Sounds like you need to get a Tundra.
Good luck! My neighbor will sell you his if he can get it back from the shop for more than a week.
Mine does this also, they will kick off after running for so long. It may be a safety feature that we are not aware of?????
The wife never wears a seat belt and I always do so I dont know if the seat belt interface has anything to do with it.
Shark Bait 02-04-2004, 10:53 PM http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif Not only do I have HEATED LEATHER BUCKETS in my 04 2500HD LT - I use them. In fact when I was shopping for a new truck I would not even consider one that did not have heated leather buckets.
BTW - I can start my truck with my AstroStart AND individually turn on one or both buckets AND individually adjust the temperature!!!
Damn nice feature when it is -30F outside and besides the wife really likes them. Had too many years of freezing my a** off here in Alaska.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gif
Oldman 02-04-2004, 11:08 PM Joe Pool, once more, thanks! I just ordered one.
Mike L. 02-04-2004, 11:19 PM I live in southern california. I own a new Duramax that has heated seats. I use these wonderfull heated seats every morning when the temp dips below 50F. I am a *****.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
Got used to heated seats in my Cherokee. Had to order leather in the new truck to get the full power seats, so.... there's no way I'd have leather without the heated seats. Kind of like air conditioning, once you've had it you wouldn't go without again.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif
Cruz_Man 02-05-2004, 08:07 AM I stated in an earlier post that mine stay on. After about a month of cold weather twice my seat(s) have turned them selves off. (Must be the fart detector I keepo hearing about) http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
Hacksaw 02-07-2004, 01:33 PM I was wondering if it might have something to do with the amount of current draw when the intake heater & glow plugs are cyclying. Mine seems to do it only when I first crank it in the morning. After the cycling quits, they will stay on. Maybe some kind of circuit protection? Just a guess on my part. I know that My Yukon does not do this. I also am not about to take it in to the dealer and let the guessing begin.
Max Power 02-07-2004, 01:47 PM I have a customer that has heated seat problems on his 04. The ds heater turns itself on and he can't shut it off! The dealer was supposed to look at it Friday. It will be interesting to hear what they find.
Oldman 02-07-2004, 07:35 PM ... Kind of like air conditioning, once you've had it you wouldn't go without again.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif
I didn't know you could get a vehicle without roll down windows! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gif
DavesDmax 02-07-2004, 08:09 PM According to the owner's manual on page 1-5 the seats are supposed to turn off, (and not come back on), whe the ignition switch is cycled off.
I would imagine that there is the thermo sensor built into the seats to prevent the heaters from staying on when no one is in the seat.
PrairieGoat 02-09-2004, 11:58 PM I would imagine that there is the thermo sensor built into the seats to prevent the heaters from staying on when no one is in the seat.
Nope....has nothing to do with anyone being in the seat. I've had mine kick off while my wife and I were going down the road (only when both of us had our seats on high). As long as both aren't on high, they don't kick off.
Cruz_Man 02-10-2004, 10:25 AM Nope....has nothing to do with anyone being in the seat. I've had mine kick off while my wife and I were going down the road (only when both of us had our seats on high). As long as both aren't on high, they don't kick off.
Now that you mention it I and a budy of mine were running them both on hight that day. We pulled into a parking lot and I let the truck idel so perhaps the draw was too much and they shut off. I think I had the mirror heaters on that day too. It was pretty cold for Atlanta must of been around 40 deg. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif I don't see how you guys up North do it.
PA24Pilot 02-10-2004, 07:58 PM Our heated seats have not stayed on as some have found, but they do shut off all by them selves. We have not found any pattern to why or when they shut off. Ghosts and gremlins are the culprit, maybe??? Would be nice if one of our techs would respond to this thread.
