: Pics of 4" Dual Stack Install...
StraitDiesel 05-17-2005, 02:34 AM Well, this Sunday I worked on fabricating a 4" dual stack exhaust. I built this kit using some extra 4" pipe I had laying around, along with 4" stacks off my grandpa's Kenworth (his old drag racing pipes). Sounds awesome, low EGT's and looks goodhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/rockon.gif

WI Huck 05-18-2005, 12:01 AM One of the guys at our shop has six inch stacks in a 05 Dodge with no muffler. After you get over the initial shock of the hugeness, it kind of grows on you. It sounds great, but I would not want to drive it every day. My preference would be five inch for stacks on a full size truck minimum. Yours look fine; I am just distorted with what I am used to seeing. Heck, how many others out there look at a gasser and laugh at the wimpy pipes on those things after you are used to the four inch ones we have?
StraitDiesel 05-20-2005, 09:11 AM WI Huck,
The only reason I really didn't want to go with bigger stacks is because these pipes were free and I don't have a dime in the whole install... which is the best part about it.
If I were to spend the money on something like this, I definitely would go with bigger stacks, but this ideal for me right now.
A few driving impressions since I put it on 5 days ago:
The drone in the cab was absolutely terrible with it being straight piped, and I think this is due to the fact that my truck is a regular cab and the pipes are only inches away from my ears in the cab. It is funny that if I lean my head forward towards the windshield the drone disappears, so guys with xcabs or CC's should be able to get away with a straight pipe. In order to get rid of the drone, I shortened my gutted stock muffler to about 12 inches and welded it underneath. This gets rid of all drone and for some reason the turbo sings like crazy now. EGT's are still really low too!
Here's a pic of the under carriage mounting:
shawn90yj 05-27-2005, 02:22 PM Does it blow black soot all over your truck?
StraitDiesel 05-28-2005, 12:35 AM shawn90yj,
It doesn't blow any smoke on my truck at all... matter of fact, it barely even smokes at all, unless I have the juice turned up with low boost fuel on 5.

WI Huck 05-28-2005, 06:35 PM Free is good! :cool2:
shawn90yj 05-28-2005, 09:39 PM cool, I want to do that to my dually and didn't want to clean the truck daily
Thanks

Thanks I have mitre cut stacks on mine and after every rain it seems I get water inside and then I have soot over everything. So I would say you will want turn outs for sure or rain caps. Just my experience.

Just wait till it rains...;)
StraitDiesel 12-06-2005, 07:31 PM Actually my truck had the turn out pipes and they never made the truck get soot spots, like the mitre cut pipes will.
Dan
dbierman 12-07-2005, 12:30 AM So you don't get any soot on your truck when you start it after a rain. That's one of the things that was keeping me from doing it.
tazzmayer 12-07-2005, 07:39 AM that funny:rolleyes: cuz all the trucks at the construction company i worked for blew out water after a rain even with turn outs.. if they sat for a while (couple months) after a bunch of rain they would rust out the system under the truck. had to keep coffee cans bungied to the pipes if we didn't use them often.. i like stacks but just didn't like the idea of ran getting in the system or claening the trucks off all the time..
StraitDiesel 12-07-2005, 11:16 AM I cannot answer for everyone's experiences, but my truck has never had soot spots on it, and my truck is white and it would be very noticeable! Granted, I don't let the truck sit out in the rain for months at a time either. But, while at work the truck will sit outside for 8-12 hours and rain has not affected the pipes at all... maybe I am just lucky!
