: 2001 Suburban fuel guage question
Chevy Power 05-16-2005, 11:45 PM The fuel guage on my Suburban will occasionally jump back and froth between empty and full even though I have just filled up or have ran for 400 miles. Is this the fuel sending unit going bad? Right now I am judging my fuel by mieage but will be selling it in a few months due to orders to Japan and want to fix this before I try and sell it. If it is the fuel sending unit, what is a normal price for one of these? Thanks in advance for the help.
GMCSID 05-17-2005, 12:20 AM It is possible the sender is the problem. It is common. A sender at GM parts direct is about $75 but labor will cost a lot more.
Chevy Power 05-17-2005, 04:23 PM I can do the labor myself. GM Parts Direct, Do you mean a dealer? Or is that a website? Is it in the tank? Sorry for so many questions.
Chevy Power 05-17-2005, 04:27 PM I was just quoted a price $169 from my dealer for the fuel level sensor. Is that a good price?
GMCSID 05-17-2005, 08:14 PM http://www.gmpartsdirect.com
I think this is your part #89060637. It is $75 on GM parts direct. It is inside the tank.
Chevy Power 05-29-2005, 09:08 AM Can you believe, I just ordered the part I need last week from gmpartdirect.com and low and behold, Fri in the mail I got notification of a recall for it. I called the dealer and they knew nothing about it yet. Does anyone know if I can get reimbursed from GM for buying my own part from gmpartsdirect.com?
GMCSID 06-03-2005, 01:08 AM I believe you can get reimbursed for having it replaced, not sure about just for the part though. What is the recall number, I'm having problems finding it, I've seen it before now it's gone.
GMCSID 06-04-2005, 12:44 PM I found the recall number, 05027, but there is no trace of it in GM service info. It used to be there, now it's not. I wonder what's going on. We won't be able to perfom the recall if we have no info.
Chevy Power 06-07-2005, 02:01 PM According to the two dealers here, it has not been pushed out to the dealers yet. The notice I got was just that, a notice saying it was coming out. I don't have the notice on me right now so I don't know if tehre was a number on it. The one Tech has heard of it and knew it was coming, he thinks they (GM) are still getting parts together for it to be sent out to the dealers.
GMCSID 06-07-2005, 07:58 PM It will be started in November.
jgreenlees 06-07-2005, 11:27 PM Sorry GMSID, but the recall has nothing to do with the level sensor. I am also ASE master auto and truck and school bus and Chevrolet platinum tech, was GMC till I went back to a chevy dealer. Please don't scare people till you get all the facts.
Chevy Power 06-08-2005, 08:22 AM Thanks, I tried cancelling the part again but gmpartsdirect.com said I can't. It should be shipping on Thirsday. Hopefully I can take the letter I have to the dealer and tehy will replace it and then when the recall actually comes out, maybe I can get reimbursed for it. Either that or I guess I'll be dropping the tank within the next couple of weeks.
GMCSID 06-08-2005, 10:11 PM jgreenless is right, although a little rude about it. I don't think I scared anybody. The fuel pump and fuel sender are contained in one module. When the recall is released in November there will be a service kit to repair the fuel pump connection in that module. The whole module will not be replaced (my mistake). Therefore the part you have will still need to be installed. Maybe you could talk them into replacing it when they do the recall.
jgreenlees 06-08-2005, 10:36 PM I did not mean to be rude, I have visited and been on many forums where the CORRECT information is not posted. TSB's, P.I.s, Recall's are for specific vehicles within certain VIN breakpoints. One BIG problem I see on these forums, is the people that own trucks just say this applies to my vehicle, I have (this) problem, G.M. should fix it free.
Chevy Power 07-04-2005, 08:54 AM Sorry I haven't been on in a while, been a little busy. So does the part I have:
ACDelco Part
ACD# SK1107
GM# 26360815
Have anything to do with my problem? No biggie if it doesn't, I can't return it anyway. I guess I'll be waiting until Nov to have it fixed. Thanks for all the assistance.

The part you have is the fuel level sender. When they do the recall they will remove the module from the tank that contains that sender but they will only be repairing the fuel pump connector. Therefore you will need to install that sender at that time. Sorry for any confusion.
Chevy Power 07-04-2005, 06:36 PM No confusion from you, just my own. I suppose even though they have it out and have to put it back anyway they will probably still charge me labor to put in the part I have. Just my luck.
Chevy Power 11-01-2005, 10:31 PM I finally got notification today that they were doing the recall. And the dealer here is replacing the entire unit as a whole. Go figure.
mikek996 11-02-2005, 11:01 AM we have already done a couple of these there is also some wiring that needs to be changed per recall. and you can definatly be reimbursed.
bpicard 11-02-2005, 08:30 PM I have a '99 K1500 Suburban that my wife drives. My fuel gage needle started vibrating very rapidly. What could be causing this? Would this be covered/related to this recall?
Thanks. Brian.
Chevy Power 11-02-2005, 11:17 PM Not sure of what years the recall covers but my 01 needle started dropping to empty and the low fuel low would come on and then would go to full and bounce all around. So needless to say I am having to judge my fuel by the mies driven. Until this Fri when mine gets the work done.
I would check with the Chevy service dept or I'm sure someone will chime in here and let you know if yours is covered.

Does anyone know if this is covered by the recall? Or does anyone know what the problem is?
Thanks much. Brian.
Cobra#3747 11-17-2005, 08:02 PM its for 2000 and 2001
bpicard 11-18-2005, 08:27 AM its for 2000 and 2001
Cobra,
Thanks for the recall info'.
Is my fuel pump going out? What does this rapid movement/vibration of the needle indicate? Thanks again for your HELP.
Brian.
Cobra#3747 11-26-2005, 12:46 PM Honestly, I have seen it on a couple vehicles, but no one has ever complained about it. If anything I would think its the cluster itself, just because there is an "Anit-slosh" module that slows down the fluctuation of the gauge so you dont have the gauge bouncing around everytime the gas moves around in the tank.
Sorry I didnt get back sooner, just looked over some old posts and found it.
bpicard 11-28-2005, 11:36 AM Cobra,
Thanks very much. I'm just concerned that the fuel pump is going out. This just started about two months ago.
Brian.
Cobra#3747 11-28-2005, 12:42 PM Unfortunatly when the pump goes, there really is no sign most of the time. Just like a starter motor when they decided not to work anymore.
