check your oil for diesel ! might be injectors

What has it NORMALLY Been running before?

Like stated above, check for diesel in the oil, like oil level rising, do the drop on tissue test and look for a halo, Smell it...ect....

ALSO does the oil pressure run higher when cold, then drop off?

The 03's have had a stepper motor problem, and my oil pressure gauge started doing the real low indication, but I knew it was the stepper motor because it has been acting erratic before, so I swapped it out along with the Speedo motor.

just some more things to consider!

Good luck.

Measure the amount that comes out, it should be 10 qts, if it is over, it may have fuel in the oil!

Sounds like an indication problem unless you have a trashed motor.

To me that is........... Good Luck!

FYI at hot idle my truck runs at about 30-35 psi, at 2K RPM cruising its a little over 60.

On mine when it is up to temp, it will indicate about 60 psi doing 70 on the interstate.

How much did you drain...over 10 quarts? My truck has done this exact same thing *twice*...both times it was injectors...the oil pressure guage started acting erratic, then would read low, a few days before you could fully tell there was fuel in the oil...

The stepper motors are like 7 bucks, and can be had from a guy in Florida, or on Ebay, just make sure they are the newer style ones, or you will be getting the same ones installed in your truck now.

Here is the link in the DIY section, and I believe it has a reference to where to get the motors.

I got mine from Ebay.

Good luck, and I hope this is the cause of your problems!

is the low oil pressure sensor tied in to the gauge my truck said low oil pressure just got the new stepper motor

f your DIC is chiming low oil pressure, then you have other issues.

Are you sure you do not have fuel in the oil?

The gauge indicating low, will not chime in the dic, that is just for indication, there is a oil pressure sensor that the dic monitors off of.

Again, are you sure you do not have fuel in the oil?

the DIC will not indicate low oil pressure until it gets below 2psi i believe. I know that sounds really low but that is what a GM tech told me when i had my previous truck in for injectors

stop guessing, take a sample and get it tested. i don't know what you have there but in st. louis i just took mine to the fabic cat dealer and they do testing there. it was only like $14 and only took 2 or 3 days. they test for metals, fuel, and over all composition of the oil. takes the guess work out. either that or just do it the hard way and put a mechanical guage on it and see what you get. just my two pennies.

Mechanical gage first then go hunting for electrical problems... That way you know your not driving around on a motor that has a bad oil pump or other internal issue's.

Where would you install the mechanical gauge? Is there a place on the oil cooler/filter housing?
