Hi all
I recently bought a 2001 2500HD CC SB 4X4 and ran the VIN before the purchase to get the service history. I found the truck in Tx and had all injectors and head gaskets replaced @ 111,000 miles. I thought great all the possible problems were already addressed. when i picked it up the low coolant light was on and was refilled before i left. It ran good but mileage was less than steller @ 12 empty. I noticed a leak from the rear left of the engine and took it to the local dealer, i also asked for a compression check to get a general health of the engine while i was there. They told me they had to order the tool to check the compression (not confidence building) they then told me it was a headgasket leaking. it is out of the GM 12/12,000 warrantee so they will not do anything. The price the gave me was 3000.00 labor plus the gaskets. If it is the head gaskets, i do not want chevy to touch it. To me they screwed up and i dont want to risk it again.
My questions are....
1) what are the possible things they could have done wrong?
2) How hard is it to do your self..how many special tools required?
3) Any place in So cal besides a dealer or Diesel tune (they are very booked) to get this done?
4) If it does indeed take 40 hours to R&R heads, the design is not the perfect motor i was led to believe. what were they thinking?

PM socaldieseltech, He's a supporting vendor here and before he left the dealer, he took care of many of the socal members, myself included. Now he just spends our $$$ and all we're left with is a fast, reliable truck.):h ):h ):h
