i managed to get the window motor out. It's trashed. I pulled it apart and it was full of rust.

So i'm looking at replacements. Some say "note: with 12 tooth gear" is there a difference? I've got to pull apart the little cover over the gear so i can count the teeth, but is there anything other than the 12 tooth gear?

Also does anyone have a driver's side window motor for a K5 kicking around? Is the motor for the K5 used in the suburban too?

Thanks guys

- Dave

Suburban, truck, and K5 motors are the same. I've got many laying around in junked 6.2 trucks, but never had to replace one yet. I've had many quit working, or get real slow - especially on 12.5 battery voltage before the engine is started and it rises over 14. Just pulled them out, cleaned out the rust and cleaned off the commutator on the motor-armature, and they all worked fine again. Here in the snow-belt of New York, they all get trouble if they sit outside many winters. Yet, I've got early 80s Subarus rusting out in my fields, and those motors always work. Seems GM should of used those motors instead.

I've got eight of the early '80's window motors going up and down in three vehicles. They're all the same, get slow on battery voltage, a little better when on charging voltage. as JD said, clean them up, lube the tracks, they're good to go for several years.

The wet, cold climates are worse on them than stuff. I have a friend in Central OR with two of them, his seem to continue to work, I think it's the dry air.

unfortunately this ones done for. the brushes fell apart, literally into a dozen pieces. i was able to clean the commutator and everything, and it worked for a short while after i got it back together. then the motor would spin but the gear on the end didn't(it would turn a tiny bit then stop yet the motor would still run), like a gear had stripped out, then it quit all together.

I don't get it, if the motor's supposedly sealed how come they crap out? MY dad's dodge and the subuaru in the yard the windows have always worked fine.

Oh well, time to hunt down another one.
