I was told that you had to swap heads to install a 6.5 from a van to a truck. The truck we are swapping to is a 1995 CK 2500. It has an S series motor in it now. What is the differance between an S series & I believe it's a C series Engine? Any swapping info would be appreciated. Are Turbo engines & regular 6.5's the same sans turbo? I have a 6.5 that I replaced a 6.2 with. could everything be bolted on that motor & go?
Thanks
Jef

Turbo on side for trucks. Turbo in engine valley on top for vans. Better set up in vans than trucks (similiar to the Hummer setup), but from what I hear, won't fit right. I guess you could modify it.
Any other input from anyone else?

ok a 6.5 turbo motor from a p/u all years block and heads can inter change as well as the n/a van motors up to 95 96 and newer 6.5 turbo van motors use a centre mounted turbo the heads are diffrent the angle the bolts that hold on the intake on and the block has 2 holes drilled in it to supply and return oil to the turbo it can be used if you block off these 2 holes

Thanks a lot guys, there are quite a few school buses out there, some of which can be had pretty cheap.
Now any answers to the motor series designation ours is an S series?
And how about using my current 6.5 & bolting on the turbo?
This is for my son's truck, we believe he has a cracked block. It's a 1995 6.5 turbo.

I have a 1989 GMC 2500 2wd. I replaced the original 6.2 with a 6.5 nonturbo GM crate motor in september 2000. Can this engine be used as a long block for the 1995 6.5 turbo. I thought that it would have higher compression thana turbo motor.

motor is the same put your turbo setup on it and go the only things you might run in to is the bell housing bolts on a 99 and newer motor are metric and the oil cooler line holes on side of block may be bigger

Most likely that's the same 6.5L long block as a TD, same compression ratio.

Thanks, I'm sure I must have muddled my way through those same problems in 2000 when we installed the engine in the 1989. I know I ended up replacing both exhaust manifolds & the starter. After we were all set we started the engine for test runs 2x. The third time the starter went out. No indications or anything, just flat out quit.

I don't really have much experiance working on my diesels as all I've done to them is routine maitenance. I even consider the engine swap in the 1989 routine maintenance since it was probably close to 400,000 miles. I've run Amsoil 5-30 & a filtration solutions bypass filter for many years. I change my main filter every 3-4000 miles or 100 hours and the bypass when I think it needs it. I've used mostly 11% soy-diesel since it became available. The soy truckers I know hate the soy because it jells so quickly & takes forever to thaw out when unmixed. I've never had a problem with 11%. I always add power service, modifier & cetane booster to my tank before I have it filled. - I have a 300 gal & a 500 gal tank.
Any ideas for finding a differant 6.5 motor? I wouldn't mind saving my other truck or finding a 4x4 xtra cab to put it in.
Thanks for everything

Here's a difference. In the van, there's probably no way on earth to get an intercooler in there.:(
I bet the turbo is also different and not just the heads. I saw my turbo in person and I've seen pictures of pickup turbos on this forum and they look a lot different.
