Please spare the beating. I have done enough of that. Added 14 gal of gas
to top off stock tank. Drove 70 miles, shut it down and it would not start.
Remember refueling smelled fill cap and felt like a real DORK.
Had truck towed , pumped 20 gal out, changed filter, added 20 gal.
diesel. Started it up and seems to run fine. Is there any thing else I should
do? Any permament damage that could have occurred?
Thanks in advance for your input.

Don't feel bad. It has been done a number of times. Check out these threads.

And there are probably others. Luckily I can't speak from experience, But if I recall the other posts , you are probably OK

I work for an ambulance company that has half the fleet gas, the the other half diesel. A few times a year somebody always dumps gas in diesel or vice versa.

How did you get 70 miles without noticing there was something wrong?

You did everything you needed to do to fix the situation. At worst, you took a small amount of life out of the injectors.
