Ok so im sure 110% that ups is gonna deliver the boost guage today. so i jump the gun and take the intake off, buy a 11/32 bit and a 1/8npt tap. im cleaning the intake for an hour then i drill and tap. everythings running smoothly. I put the intake back on just and time to watch the ups truck drive by. ok so i was mistaken. tomorrow will be the day. so i go to autozone on the bike to get a plug for the hole so i can drive till tomorrow. and i bring the tap package so i dont get the wrong plug. the guy at the desk thinks i might have tapped with the wrong bit. the damn price tag was covering the tap #. so to make this long story short. Is 1/8-27npt pipe tap the correct tap? I know i shouldnt have jumped the gun on tapping before i have the boost. But im a Censored eager moron. :exactly: At least i know it. But please tell me this is gonna be the right tap. oh yeah its an autometer cobalt guage if that matters.

How did you determine the correct tapping depth?
You can "overtap" NPT threads because they are tapered.

I overheard someone tapping about a half inch from the larger part of the intake about 20 dagrees angle toward the passenger side( so the turbo will push the air into the hole.
and i tapped almost all the way threw about 3-4 threds didnt make into the casting.(the plug i got fit a little loose until it was about 3/4 way in when it started to snug up tight) i also had about 3 wraps of teflon tape around it. I put a brick on the gas pedal and checked for leaks w/soapy water and didnt see any bubbles so im sure the depth was good. but the teller at auto zone scared the sht out of me telling me i might have screwed up. but thanks for calming me down guys.( I only lost about a handfull of hair)

I only went about 1/2 the depth of the tap, my fitting was flush with the inside of the plenim then, but i'm sure yours will be fine, just sticking inside a bit.

the egr is the problem... the cdr and egr systems can not work together... disable the egr and it will not plug up

I'd been more scared about that brick on the pedal thing myself

why? as long as the engine was at operating temp [or at least somewhat warm] there is no harm to be done running the engine at high idle [governed rpm]... many factory tests done on diesel engines of all brands require the tech to hold the engine at high idle for sometimes over a minute... the governor or ecm will not allow the engine to overspeed as long as there is no external fuel source that is not metered.
now, on a cold engine, i don't like running it at high idle...
and high idle and fast idle are not the same... fast idle is a little above idle [1000-1500] high idle is maximum controlled engine speed

I see that point but I guess the idea of it was scarey at first. I'm glad these engines are governed cause the other day my 4500 popped out of 5th gear while cruising at 75 and of course the cruse control tried to keep the speed during the 10 seconds or so it took me to figure out what happened.

I only had it reved about 2000rpm with the brick. i wouldnt let it rev in the red. that would scare me too.
